It’s been hard for us to come up with the right words to express our feelings on the unbelievable acts that have been taking place.
Ultimately, there are no words that can truly explain how this is making us, or anyone else, feel.

While we fully support the anti-racism movement, we have realized that we are not personally aware of a lot of the resources out there where people can go to help, or be helped, in this situation.

Guess who's back, back again…. insert Eminem in a superman costume.

Is it just us, or was April one roller coaster of a month?

Just before the full lock down went into effect, Tara was in the ever so stressful (and super exciting) process of buying her very first house (here in the beautiful, art-filled city of Hamilton)!
After closing April 1st, most of her free time has been spent moving out of her longtime residence in Guelph, and settling into her new space. Between Tara's busy move, and Shannon falling ill for most of the month (not with Corona, we promise), we were really forced to take a step back and focus on other areas of our lives.

As amazing as it is to have the opportunity to take that time for ourselves, we are antsy to get back to doing what we love. We’re re-focused and ready to start prepping for when we can see all your beautiful faces!

Here's to a new month, and new opportunities to make dreams come true!

Nature-deficit disorder is a very real thing?

This disorder occurs when humans lose connection to their natural environment🌳. Especially with everything going on in the world today, it's more important than ever to understand the importance of spending time in nature.

So what impact exactly does nature have on our physical health?

- Forest bathing has become a popular way of spending time in nature. Research has shown that people who participate in this practice have optimum nervous systems, well-balanced heart conditions, and reduced bowel disorders
- Participating in outdoor activities reduce the chances of developing eyesight problems like hypermetropia and myopia
- People who exercise outdoors, as opposed to indoors, are less fatigued and have fewer chances of suffering from obesity and related conditions
- Forest bathing also stimulates the production of anti-cancer proteins, and frequent walks or trips into nature help patients fighting terminal diseases

So that covers our physical health, but what about our mental health? As things like urbanization, and technology grow, so do mental health disorders.

- Nature helps in emotional regulation and improves memory functions
- Nature walks benefit people suffering from depression. People suffering from mild-major depressive disorders show significant mood uplifts when exposed to nature
- Not only does exposure to nature reduce the production of cortisol (the stress hormone), it also makes us immune to allied problems like hypertension and tachycardia
- Nature walks and other outdoor activities build attention and focus, therefore reducing chances of developing disorders like ADD

Although some of this research is still ongoing, the results so far are strong enough to prove these benefits.

So what can we take away from all this info?
Go outside!Stop staring at your cell phone, tv, or spending too much time working on your computer.
Instead, go outside, catch some rays 🌞and dig your toes into the earth.

Your entire being will thank you!

Hey Hippies!
We hope you're having a fantastic Easter weekend. It's going to be another beautiful day outside. Not too warm, but the sun is trying to shine!

With everything going on this year, I think it's safe to say that this Easter probably won't be like previous ones, no matter what the holiday means for you.

For us, we always look forward to our annual Easter brunch at our parents house. Our mom makes a feast of yummy, homemade brunch food to stuff ourselves with while hanging out with our family.

This year of course will be a little different. We won't be spending any time with our parents, and we haven't seen our sister and niece in Owen Sound in what feels like forever.

As sh*tty as it is that we are all missing our families, and not able to follow through on traditions, this time apart will make it that much better when we are finally all together again. We are trying to look on the positive side, and find peace in knowing that the ones we love are safe and healthy. And maybe make some new traditions along the way.

How are you coping with isolation on Easter? What fun/creative ways have you found to make the holiday extra special?

We made our first video!
We’ve been wanting to do more videos, but honestly we’ve both been a little nervous about it. We finally pushed ourselves outside our comfort zone to chat with you about the 28 day program we have been doing!

For those of you who don’t know, we’ve been doing our own 28 day program through Usana. We wanted to do a check-in to let you know what it’s about and how we’re doing.

Today's generations are the first to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.

There are so many reasons for this, but ultimately it comes down to one master cause; a lack of wellness. Western culture is not well, mentally or physically. Every day people are dying of degenerative diseases (cancer, stroke, diabetes etc), and every hour people are suffering poor mental health.

The worst part about this is that these are preventable. Degenerative diseases are prevented with proper nutrition, lack of toxic exposure, and exercise. Mental health is supported by proper nutrition, proper hormone balances, and mindfulness practices.

So the question becomes, WHY?

Why are we so resistant to changing our lifestyles as a measure to improve our health and longevity? Why would we prefer to eat that McDonald’s burger, smoke that cigarette, or work those hours, rather than find pleasure in the time it takes to prepare a fresh meal, learn the benefits of an organic lifestyle, or appreciate moments of stillness?

While we don’t have the answers to all of these questions, what we can offer is support from a community who is interested in changing these habits, and living a life of fulfillment!

Why Ayurveda? With so many other health ‘trends’ out there, why did Ayurveda become the foundation of our practice?

Well firstly, Ayurveda is not just a ‘trend’, and second, to put it plainly, Ayurveda is the foundation of all practices. It is the ‘mother’ of medicine and well-being.
In addition to this, Ayurveda is truly a practice of self love.
By understanding the Doshas and our personal Doshic constitutions, we are better able to understand ourselves. This knowledge gives us the ability to tailor our self care practices, and all other areas of our lives, to the needs of our individual bodies and beings.

We believe in a holistic, or full body, approach. Ayurveda connects all systems of the body together, treating the body as a whole. What we put into our bodies is directly linked to how we feel about ourselves; How we feel about ourselves is directly linked to what we choose to put in our bodies. The two are inevitably connected, and one cannot be well if the other is not.

We also strongly believe in nature, and it’s integration with our well-being. Ayurveda is a science whose medicine comes from nature. By consuming herbs, spices, fruits, and vegetables, we can not just heal, but prevent, all kinds of disease; something we have both experienced first hand!

Ayurveda has become a fully integrated part of our lives, and in fact, we have come to learn that it has always been a part of our lives, and is a part of everyone's in one way or another.

"An ideal way of life that has no ideals. Ayurveda teaches us how to love ourselves fully. It gives us the ability - by achieving physical health - to reach our inner consciousness and learn who we truly are, and the strength - both physically and mentally - to express that."
