How to Prevent or Delay Atherosclerosis | Dr. Curnew MD
1. Lower your LDL-C, Apo(b), and non-HDL-C as early as possible via medications and diet (remember 80% of LDL-C is made by the liver and 20% comes from diet, so diet can only do so much). Also know your Lp(a) which is the genetically determined evil twin of LDL.
2. Maintain an average resting blood pressure below 130/80.
3. Stop or reduce smoking!!!
4. Control or remit diabetes through medications, weight loss, diet, and physical activity.
5. Reduce waist circumference (fat in the wrong areas), not just body weight, to improve insulin sensitivity and lower systemic inflammation.
6. Build or preserve muscle via resistance training and stay active 2-3 hours weekly.
