Ten years after The Tragically Hip’s final tour, Kingston Health Sciences Centre reflects on Gord Downie’s legacy and how his glioblastoma diagnosis raised national awareness of brain cancer.
Thank you Kingston Health Sciences Centre and Queen's University Health Sciences for this piece on Gord’s legacy and the progress in care.
We’re proud to support trials and partnerships — including brain tumour research by our associate member Dr. Teresa Purzner and trials via our CCT division, the Canadian Cancer Trials Group.

Ten years after their historic final tour, Kingston is taking time to remember the legacy of Gord Downie and the impact his journey with glioblastoma had on Canadians from coast to coast. For researchers, physicians, patients and families at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) and Queen’s Unive...

🎉 What a day! On August 12th, the Sinclair Cancer Research Institute held its 25th‑anniversary retreat, marking 25 years since becoming an institute.

The event brought together 148 people for a day of sharing research, ideas and building connections. The program featured 10 Flash Talks, 38 poster presentations and eight invited speakers, and welcomed the institute's founders, faculty, staff, trainees, community members, people with lived experience and collaborators.

The retreat included a special recognition of the institute's founders — the visionaries who established the institute and laid the groundwork for decades of cancer research and community partnership.

We congratulate six SCRI trainees — Rose Binley‑Ewing (supervisors: Drs. Kubes and Cottrell), Jordan Harry (Dr. Othman), Arabella Mew (Dr. Mahar), Fatin Mustafa (Dr. Mulligan), Sophia Smith (Dr. Kubes) and Kevin Yoo (Dr. Wang) — who were honored with Best Poster and Best Flash Talk awards in recognition of their excellent work 👏

Thank you to our invited speakers, presenters, founders, organizers and everyone who attended for making the retreat a memorable celebration of 25 years as an institute.
