With Fall sports around the corner, many athletes are jumping back into soccer, hockey, volleyball, football, cross-country and a variety of others! A sudden increase in training volume and intensity can put you at greater risk of injury.
A few simple ways to prepare your body:
Build up gradually — avoid going from minimal activity to full-intensity practices overnight.
Warm up properly — include dynamic movements, and sport-specific exercises.
Strength train — strong muscles help your body handle the demands of your sport.
Don’t ignore pain — soreness that persists, worsens or changes how you move is worth addressing.
Prioritize recovery — sleep, nutrition, hydration and rest all matter.
Work on the basics — mobility, balance, coordination and landing mechanics can all help reduce injury risk.
Already dealing with an injury? Getting assessed early can help you understand what’s going on and develop a plan to safely return to your sport.
Ready for Fall sports? Let’s get your body ready, too! The team at Endurance Physiotherapy is cheering you on this season!
