Even though they are both flowering plants, bleeding hearts have different requirements than poppies.

Even though you and that person you're comparing yourself to are both humans, you may have significantly different requirements for functioning well.

When plants are in the right soil, right type of light, right moisture levels, right temperature, right nutrients for their needs, they grow with ease. They flower and fruit and cycles through their designed patterns with gentleness and peace. There is no struggle.

Humans need the right environments to function as they are designed as well. Like seeds, children do not get to choose the environment they are planted into. Unlike seeds, as children grow and become more independent and realize there are different environments, they can choose to transplant themselves (sometimes on their own, often with support) into an environment that is better equipped for their survival and eventual thriving.

It simplifies down to two choices (that take far longer and far more steps than what is written here):
1. Stay where the continous harm occurs.
2. Transfer to a more beneficial zone.

Of course it can be challenging to make the shift and it may take time to recover, heal, and settle in to this new normal and trust the safety and security is real. But the potential beauty when you make it through can be worth the effort to get there.

It is nearly the end of the school year and a great time to honour the teachers in your kids lives.

I am proud to be one of the beautiful options for teacher appreciation gifts at this event...THIS SUNDAY June 14, 2026 at the Columbus Club in St Thomas, ON.

See you there!!

Of course you have responsibilities and sometimes that includes other people.

But sometimes, those other people actually could be responsible for themselves.

Perhaps they have grown into a new level of responsibility that you haven't recognized yet and you simply need to transfer the load to them.

Perhaps they have been capable of doing the task, but they know they don't have to because you'll do it for them.

Perhaps they didn't realize that task or responsibility even exists and you need to communicate it to them so they can share or take over that load.

Prioritizing yourself and your needs is being selfless.
1. It allows space for others to grow and become more independent.
2. It role models that you are important too.
3. You show up as a more peaceful, more consistent, more considerate version of yourself when you are cared for well.

You are worth the effort it takes to heal. You are worth putting your own needs first.
You deserve to show up as a calm, supported, peaceful version of you.

"Stressed out brains don't number well. It's the reason people don't remember the number for 911 (emergency services in North America) even when they are saying it. By taking your time to slow your thoughts down enough to accurately order numbers, you give your logical brain a chance to come to the party."

I, as a nurse, am trained to care for the person in front of me based on their physical, psychological, and emotional requirements. Occasionally an aspect of culture or religion or gender may be part of those requirements and I accomodate to the best of my ability when at all possible.

I was taught to treat each patient with humanity and dignity while supporting them through some of the most vulnerable times in their lives.

Because...even when though we may appear differently on the outside (clothing style, skin tone, hairstyles, etc), we as humans all generally want the same things.
1. To be safe in all ways
2. To be seen to our very core
3. To be cared for and about

And we deserve to have it.
