The first few years of parenthood can feel overwhelming and relentless for so many reasons. That doesn’t mean there aren’t beautiful moments mixed in — but some seasons can still feel really hard.

For me, those early years were difficult. As my kids got older, I found more resources, more rhythm, and more clarity around how I wanted to show up as a parent.

I look back and remember so many sweet moments. But I can also say that as my kids have grown, I’ve found more confidence and even more joy in motherhood.

Every family is different, and every phase comes with its own highs and lows. If you’re in a season that feels more like surviving than thriving, it doesn’t mean this is how parenthood will always feel. ❤️

There are SO many ways to prepare for birth these days.

Hospital classes, online courses, private educators, books, podcasts, social media… and honestly, we think that’s a wonderful thing. There is so much information available to expecting parents.

But here’s the thing we see over and over again:

As a first-time parent, you don’t know what you don’t know.

You can spend hours researching hospital packing lists, baby gear and birth preferences, and still find yourself wondering once your baby arrives:

“Is my baby feeding enough?”

“Is this normal newborn sleep?”

“How is my partner actually supposed to help?”

“What happens if my birth doesn’t go according to plan?”

“What do I need to know about things like Vitamin K or RSV prevention?”

“What do I do if I have questions once I’m home?”

These are the conversations we really want to prioritize in our prenatal class.

Between the two of us, we attend deliveries, care for newborns in hospital, support families with feeding, and are lactation consultants. We see firsthand where families feel confident—and where they often feel caught off guard.

Our goal isn’t to tell you what choices to make.

It’s to make sure you have accurate, up-to-date information so you can make informed choices for yourself and your baby.

We also believe prenatal education should include something that doesn’t always get enough attention: your relationship with your partner. Bringing home a newborn is one of the biggest shifts you’ll experience as a couple, and understanding how to support one another matters.

Our class is one 5-hour, in-person session designed to prioritize the things we believe you genuinely need to know before bringing your baby home.

We’ll cover birth and advocacy, newborn care, feeding, sleep expectations, partner support, current Canadian recommendations, and so much more.

And you don’t just leave with a bunch of information and hope you remember it all. We provide resources after class so you can go back and revisit what we talked about—and we’re still here as a home base for questions and support once your baby arrives.

We truly hope that whatever prenatal education you choose leaves you feeling informed, confident and supported.

If I could break newborn care down into its simplest form, there are really TWO things to prioritize when bringing home a new baby:

1. Feed your baby. 🍼
2. Maintain your sanity. 🤍

Of course, prenatal education should cover labour, delivery, C-sections, interventions, complications, and newborn care.

But labour and delivery, while incredibly important, are a relatively short part of your overall transition into parenthood.

Once that baby is born, you’re caring for them day after day.

That’s why feeding and parental wellbeing are such a huge focus in the prenatal education Sarah and I provide.

A baby who is feeding effectively is more likely to be settled and sleeping reasonably well — which can create little pockets of time for you to get what YOU need.

And priority #2 is maintaining your sanity.

The newborn stage is hard. We want families to go into it with realistic expectations and a plan for how both parents will get some restorative sleep, divide and conquer, and keep the household functioning.

Who’s handling meals? Laundry? Dishes? Pets? What can you simplify? What can you let go of?

These are the conversations we want you having before you’re exhausted and overwhelmed.

I really leaned into this during a private prenatal class I taught yesterday for a family preparing to bring home twins. When you’re preparing for two newborns at once, stripping things back to the basics becomes even more important.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. You need to understand the fundamentals, have realistic expectations, and have a plan for caring for your baby AND yourselves.

Sarah and I offer both private prenatal classes (in person or virtually) and in-person group classes.

✈️ Upcoming Family Vacation

To all of my amazing sleep, feeding, and potty training families, I wanted to give everyone a heads-up that I will be away with my family from July 16–28.

This is our very first trip to Europe together, and I am so excited to unplug, be fully present with my husband and kids, and make memories together. As much as I love what I do, I also know how important it is to model taking time to recharge so I can come back refreshed and ready to support the families I work with.

If you are a current client and think you may need any troubleshooting, clarification, or support with your child’s sleep, feeding, or potty training plan while I’m away, please reach out before July 14th. I have a handful of appointments available next week for sleep refresher calls, feeding and potty training follow-ups, and additional email support so we can make sure you feel confident before I leave.

I always encourage my current clients to reach out whenever questions come up, but I do want everyone to know that my work email will only be checked intermittently while I’m away, and responses may not come until the end of July. One of the things I value most is being responsive and available to the families I work with, so I wanted to give everyone plenty of notice and the opportunity to connect before I leave.

If you’ve been thinking about booking a consultation:

• I will not be taking any new sleep clients until the end of July.
• I do have one consultation spot available next week for either a feeding or potty training family before I leave.

What postpartum looked like after my second baby 🤍

Having a second child was a really tough transition for me. All of a sudden, I was trying to meet two children’s completely separate needs, and when you’re mostly doing the childcare solo, days can quickly become overwhelming, overstimulating, and utterly exhausting.

One child needs a snack while the other needs to feed. One is melting down because their routine changed, while the other hasn’t napped all day. It can feel like you are constantly needed by everyone, all at once.

If you have a toddler at home and are preparing for another baby, Sarah and I want families to move confidently through this milestone. Often your toddler is already navigating huge developmental changes during this season — sleep can suddenly become difficult, potty training may be happening, emotions are big, and routines can feel completely flipped upside down.

It’s not uncommon for us to meet families who have been working with other professionals for weeks — sometimes even months — and could still greatly benefit from more specialized, tailored feeding support. Skipping the opportunity to work with a feeding specialist can mean missing a key piece of the puzzle.
