Boccia Nova Scotia on the Road in Halifax!

We had an amazing week introducing more people to the exciting sport of Boccia!

On October 3 and 4, we attended the Defeat Duchenne Family Forum in Halifax, where we hosted an interactive Try Boccia booth for conference delegates and their children. Folks had the opportunity to learn about this inclusive Paralympic sport, test their skills, and discover how Boccia provides competitive and recreational opportunities for players of all abilities.

The excitement continued at the Sport Nova Scotia Milk Fair on October 7, 8 and 9, where we set up a dedicated Try Boccia area. Over the three days, an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 students in Grades 3 to 8 visited our station, giving countless young people their first experience with the sport.

It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, laughter, and friendly competition as students, teachers, and delegates alike discovered the fun and accessibility of Boccia. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, took a shot, asked questions, and helped make these events such a success!

We look forward to continuing to grow Boccia across Nova Scotia and welcoming new participants to the sport.

The Boccia community in Nova Scotia mourns the loss of one of our own this week. Gerry Post, who passed away after a brief illness.

Gerry joined our Halifax Boccia club just a year ago, He arrived with an energy that lifted the room, and a joy for the game that reminded us why we play. We were fortunate—truly fortunate—to have known him.

He carried a spirit that was both gentle and vibrant, the kind that made people feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated.

We will miss him—his humour, his kindness, his enthusiasm.

May we honour Gerry by carrying forward the joy he brought, the laughter he shared, and the spirit he embodied.

Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦 everyone!

"On behalf of CCPSA and Boccia Canada, and personally, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Éric's family, friends, teammates, and everyone in the boccia community who had the privilege of knowing him.

I had the opportunity to watch Éric compete internationally over many years, and I witnessed firsthand the passion, determination, and courage that defined him as an athlete. Éric proudly represented Canada on the international stage for nearly a decade and was one of the country's top athletes in the BC3 classification. A multiple-time Canadian Champion in individual competition, he also enjoyed tremendous success in pairs alongside his Québec teammates. Throughout his career, he represented Canada at the highest level, including at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, the 2015 Parapan American Games, and numerous international competitions.

What I will remember most, however, is not only Éric's accomplishments, but the way he competed. He had a style of play that was uniquely his own and approached every match without fear, giving everything he had despite the significant challenges he faced. His courage, resilience, and unwavering competitive spirit earned the respect of everyone who had the opportunity to watch him compete.

While his achievements on the court were remarkable, Éric's greatest legacy is the inspiration he leaves behind. He helped shape the history of boccia in Canada and demonstrated what perseverance, courage, and commitment truly look like. His impact on our sport, and on the people who knew him, will not be forgotten.

Éric will be deeply missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Canadian boccia athletes. I am grateful for everything he gave to our sport, and I will remember him with great respect."

— Martin Richard, Chief Executive Officer Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association
