🪮 Did You Know? Lice Have Been Around Longer Than Humans Have Been Wearing Clothes!

Head lice are not a modern problem. In fact, scientists believe lice have been living alongside humans for millions of years. Researchers have even used lice DNA to help estimate when humans first started wearing clothing!

Lice have been found on ancient mummies in Egypt, preserved combs from Ancient Rome, and archaeological sites all over the world. No matter the century, one thing has remained the same: lice don’t discriminate.

They don’t care if your hair is clean or dirty, long or short, rich or poor. They simply spread through close head-to-head contact, which is why they’re so common among children.

While nobody enjoys dealing with lice, it can be reassuring to know that families have been battling these tiny pests for thousands of years. You’re definitely not alone! 😊

🪮 Why Is Follow-Up So Important? Understanding the Lice Life Cycle 🪮

One of the biggest misconceptions about lice is that a single treatment always solves the problem. Unfortunately, lice have a life cycle that makes follow-up appointments incredibly important.

🥚 Lice eggs (nits) can take up to 7–10 days to hatch.
🐛 Newly hatched lice are tiny—often no bigger than a speck of dirt—and can be nearly impossible to spot.
🪳 Once mature, a female louse can lay up to 6–10 eggs per day, restarting the cycle all over again.

Even with a thorough treatment and nit-picking session, it is possible for a tiny egg to be missed. That’s why Nit Pickers Co. recommends a follow-up appointment 8–10 days after treatment. At that point, any missed eggs should have hatched, but the lice are not yet mature enough to lay new eggs.
