✨ Meet the JAM Team: Miho ✨

Miho has been a valued member of the JAM community for several years. After working as a rehabilitation assistant, she continued her journey as an apprentice, dedicating herself to the study and practice of Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion.

Combining her rehabilitation background with hands-on training in Japanese acupuncture, Miho provides thoughtful and compassionate care for people of all ages.

In addition to acupuncture, Miho has developed a strong interest in traditional Japanese fermented foods and enjoys sharing guidance on healthy eating and self-care practices.

We are grateful to have Miho as part of the JAM team. 💛

📍 Miho primarily practices at Zana Well (Davisville).
📍 She is also available at Annie's Oil & Stone on Wednesdays.

JAM – Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinic is operated by a team of three practitioners who have trained together for many years.

At JAM, only practitioners who have demonstrated the technical skills, attention to detail, and treatment approach that reflect the values of JAM are invited to practice as JAM therapists.

Although each practitioner brings their own unique experiences and strengths, we share the same foundation and treatment philosophy.

At JAM, we believe acupuncture and moxibustion are not only for treating symptoms, but also for supporting health before problems arise. We value treatments that work with the body gently, helping to restore balance and support long-term well-being.

Our style of Japanese Acumoxa is suitable for people of all ages — from children to older adults. It is also well suited for those who are sensitive to treatment, nervous about acupuncture, or dealing with complex and long-standing health concerns.
Whether you are seeking support for pain, stress, digestive concerns, women's health, or simply looking to maintain your overall health, our team is here to support you.

We are grateful to be part of the Toronto community and look forward to welcoming you to our clinic.

Meet the JAM team 😊

☀️ Summer Transition & Your Immunity

Summer has officially arrived in Toronto, with temperatures quickly climbing up to 29°C!
Because our seasonal transitions happen so suddenly, your body might be struggling to adapt to the rapid shift.

To help you adjust smoothly over the next two weeks, we recommend focusing on your digestive health and natural heat regulation.

🍲 Protect Your Digestive Energy

When you consume excessive cold food and drinks, your body is forced to expend extra energy just to raise its internal temperature. This can exhaust your gastrointestinal (GI) system and lead to a drop in appetite.

During this transition, we recommend you:
☕ Drink warm water or tea instead of ice-cold beverages.
🙅‍♂️ Minimize iced treats that shock your core temperature.
🍳 Eat cooked foods (vegetables can be steamed, quick boiled)
to lessen the digestive burden on your stomach.

📖 Beware of Unconscious Health Habits

Abrupt weather shifts catch our bodies off guard, but our daily routines can inadvertently make things worse.
Our teacher, Master acupuncturist Mitsunori Seino highlights this hidden strain in his newly published book, "Abunai Seikatsu Shukan 24 (Dangerous Lifestyle Habits 24)".

He warns that chronic fatigue and low immunity often stem from unconscious, everyday habits that ignore our body's natural signals.
Flooding your system with ice water or spending hours in aggressive air conditioning during a heatwave are perfect examples of hidden habits that deplete your defensive energy.

🏥 We Are Here to Help

If you are feeling sluggish, experiencing digestive issues, or struggling to adapt to the Toronto heat, our clinic can help restore your internal balance.
We use gentle, targeted therapies inspired by traditional Japanese regulatory care to strengthen your immune system from the inside out.

The strength of rice as it begins to sprout.
Our bodies, too, carry this quiet power to grow and heal.

Acupuncture works with this innate force, guiding the body toward recovery.
Acupuncture helps draw out the strength already within the body to address current imbalances and support healing.
It also helps maintain balance and may prevent future problems before they fully appear.

Which approach would you rather choose?

Waiting until the body is in pain—
or caring for it before it reaches that point?

🌾🌾🌾🌾
This year, I’m challenging myself to grow rice for the first time.
I’ll be keeping it at the clinic, so feel free to stop by and watch it grow with me

The spring semester of my Japanese acupuncture class has started at the acupuncture school.

Some are taking the class as a required course, while others have joined out of genuine interest in Japanese acupuncture—each coming from a different background.

My class is not the kind where you have to study intensely in a conventional way.
Instead, I hope it becomes a space where students can feel a slightly different “wind” from what they have experienced so far.

After all, learning Japanese acupuncture does not appear on the national licensing exam.
Classes like this—ones that broaden perspective—are usually placed toward the end of an advanced course.

So then, what is Japanese acupuncture?
How many people can clearly say, “This is it”?

That vague feeling of “maybe… this?” that comes to mind—
as students begin to explore the historical background and how current practices have evolved—
gradually shifts into a deeper understanding:
“Ah, I see… so this is what it was.”

I hope that this process will connect, in some way,
to the path each student will choose to walk moving forward.

As a result, Monday afternoons at JAM – Wilson will be closed until late June.
Instead, we will be open on Wednesdays at the Wilson location, so please feel free to book your visits accordingly.

" What is Japanese Acupuncture? "
Japanese acupuncture is a traditional healing technique known for its gentle and shallow insertion or non-insertion needles. Unlike other forms of acupuncture, this method emphasizes comfort, making it ideal for those who are sensitive to needles.

" How is Japanese Style Different from Other Acupuncture Styles? "

Tools, depth and insertion techniques :
Japanese acupuncture use finer needles (e.g. Silver needles) inserted just below the skin or not inserted at all, ensuring minimal discomfort, using “Teishin (rounded tip needle)” and “Shonishin (needle for infants)”

" What is Moxibustion and How is it Used? "
Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy involving the burning of dried herbs, Moxa (mugwort) on or near the skin. This technique is used to warm regions and meridian points with the intention of stimulating circulation and encouraging a smoother flow of blood and qi. We mainly treat physical problems with moxibustion, and the mental problems with needles. Although we aim to manage symptoms, our primary focus is to approach the root cause. Moxibustion is not merely addition to the needles, it plays an important role in our treatment.

最後には針の道具を自ら手に取って遊ぶほどに。

Last week — two little boys came in for children's acumoxa.
A little nervous at first…
But once they realized it didn't hurt?
They loved every moment 😊
By the end, they were playing with the tools themselves.
The moxa was a big hit too.
"Can I have that again?"
With regular sessions,
many children feel more settled
and full of energy.
Come give it a try!

At-home Children’s Acumoxa & Baby Massage
We recently hosted a free in-person workshop at our parent–child circle “Stretch.”
Instead of needles… we used a simple spoon.
As the mothers’ hands moved gently, the babies’ bodies began to soften and relax.
Even such a simple touch can create a real response in the body.
A gentle, soothing kind of “magic touch” for calming your baby.
This session was held in Japanese, but an English class is coming soon.
More details will be shared shortly—stay tuned.

We have more children visited us for a children’s Acumoxa (pediatric acupuncture and moxibustion) session 😊 this week!

This time, we welcomed two boys, aged 2 years and 6 months.
They were both very active, full of energy, and absolutely adorable.

At first, many families naturally wonder,
“Acupuncture for children?”

So we begin by gently explaining the process to the family,
while taking time to play and connect with the children.

Once they feel comfortable, we begin the treatment.

This time, both children were able to lie down on the bed on their own,
and the session went very smoothly.

(It may look simple, but this is actually a big step 😊)

Children’s Acumoxa does not involve needles.
It is a very gentle approach, yet children’s bodies respond beautifully.

Please feel free to take a look at the video to see how it went.

At JAM, we hope to connect with many more children and families through this experience.

We are currently offering complimentary sessions for those who are willing to participate, until the end of March.

If you’re interested, please feel free to come by — friends are always welcome too 😊

You can contact us via comment, DM, phone, text, or email.

We look forward to hearing from you 🌿
