This morning, as I sat on the hill in the pasture, covered in bug repellent and overlooking the horses, I was reminded of the importance of simply being present. I came out here with the intention of receiving whatever messages the horses had to share, but instead of them coming to me, I was given the gift of sitting quietly among them. They know what Horse Medicine is, and they know they can come forward when something is needed. Today, the medicine was simply being still.
As I watch the herd continue to adapt, I’m reminded that change doesn’t have to be forced. Butterscotch is finding his place, learning the communication and boundaries within the herd, and doing it all without overthinking. A simple correction, a small adjustment, and then he goes right back to being himself. Woody looks over at me, almost as if he’s reminding me that this too is a lesson.
With my new schedule only a month away, can you believe it?!, the new routine and the changes ahead will all find their rhythm, just like the herd does. Maybe I don’t need to have every detail figured out before it arrives. Maybe I just need to listen, adjust, trust, and allow things to unfold. The horses reminded me today that everything will be okay.
