"There is more to life than increasing its speed". Gandhi

These words came to me yesterday on my trail run. Relentless pursuit and productivity causes us to miss important details, things which matter.

Life isn't a list that needs to be checked off. Life consists of living now, in the moment, seeing reality for what it is, spending time in the details.

I themed my yoga class this week on dhyana, or meditative absorption which is exactly what Gandhi meant in his statement.

As a result, it has been such a Beautiful week of pauses and recalibration, focusing on the here and now.

I hope you can spend time this week recalibrating and pausing!

What happens when the place that once held your past becomes the place where you offer healing?

On this episode of The Inner Practice Podcast, I speak with trauma-informed yoga educator Jen Lindgren ().

Decades ago, Jen walked into a correctional facility to visit her father during his incarceration.

Today, she returns to that same facility—not as a visitor, but as a yoga teacher, offering breath, movement, and mindfulness to incarcerated individuals.

In this deeply personal conversation, Jen shares:

✨ Growing up connected to the prison system
✨ How movement became part of her own healing from complex trauma
✨ Teaching trauma-informed yoga inside correctional facilities
✨ The questions that still live in her heart about her father’s life and struggles
✨ How lived experience can become a path of service

This episode is about compassion, purpose, and the possibility that healing can emerge in the very places where pain once lived.

Some stories begin in expected places.
Jen Lindgren’s began on a pool table.

Growing up with a father who was incarcerated, Jen carried pain, instability, and a path that could have easily led somewhere very different. One night, in the middle of a crisis at a bar, someone noticed her suffering and introduced her to yoga and breathwork — right there on a pool table.

That moment changed the trajectory of her life.

What began as a single breath became a lifelong practice spanning more than 30 years. Yoga became more than movement — it became a way to heal, regulate, reconnect, and reclaim purpose.

Today, Jen brings those same tools into prisons, teaching trauma-informed yoga to individuals navigating incarceration, trauma, and disconnection. Her story is a reminder that healing can begin in the most unexpected moments — and that one compassionate interaction can alter the course of a life.

Bringing yoga to an incarcerated population is not something that I would have thought my yoga journey would have taken me.

However, the prison yoga project has been so influential to me as a person and a human being. Using rehabilitation over punishment is the key to decreasing recidivism.

Next week on the Inner Practice podcast, Jen Lindgren will be discussing her story. In part 1, Jen will share of her story of having a father who was incarcerated and how she found yoga on a pool table.

In part 2, Jen will dive into what the prison yoga project is.

Mental health struggles are often on my heart and today is magnified by the recent news of Claude Lemieux.

Athletes are no different than you or me, they are not super human, they are not to be put on a pedestal.

Jim, will forever be my greatest teacher and I will always thank him for teaching me that regardless of ones abilities, we all need to be listened to, to be loved, to be heard and to have someone truly in our corner. I am immensely grateful for those iny corner.

I hope today, you will sit with your Jim's and if you are a Jim, please know there are people out there who got you.
