How I think about coverup tattoo projects, read:
First I need the rough shape and flow of the body and tattoo we’re working with.
I try to use as many of the existing lines as part of the new design to help disguise the old tattoo a little better.
The hardest things to hide are the black lines, this is also why I have to say no to some people because there’s too much black for me to work with. I only take on the ones I know I can give the client what they’re hoping for.
The yellow sharpie from the last image helps me think about the big picture then I try to use what’s already there as much as I can.

Heres the fresh line-work. When working on a project like this I want to give the skin time to rest before adding shading to it.
We went bold with the lines (more than twice as thick as any of my regular tattoos) because we will be building the shading off these lines. This way you can’t tell where the line ends and the shading begins.
Flowers are generally the easiest subject as they can be any shape you need them to be.
Here’s what we did about one month healed.
I used a 18RS from KWADRON OFFICIAL PAGE for the bold lines and a 5rl for the thin ones. RS and RL just mean shader and liner and the number is how many individual needles are in one configuration. Big number = big lines.
I took this right before we started colour packing aka “filling in”
Krista took amazing care of her tattoo and used the Hustle Butter aftercare kit I gave her. Flawless heal 🤤
This is as far as we got today. About 5 hours of work. Doesn’t seem like a lot of coverage compared to my other tattoos for the time but that’s because the light ink isn’t just watered down black (that’s how we usually get lighter tones)
I used World Famous Tattoo Ink monochromatic set. This is actual grey colour the same way red or blue ink would be a colour.
No watering down means you don’t see what’s underneath!
These inks are what we generally use for coverups and they do require a few passes in the lighter values to fully hide what’s underneath.
Planning the design ahead helps us need less passes but honestly doing a few laser sessions is what makes the biggest dif
