Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 menstruating people of reproductive age 🎗️ — yet in Canada, many still wait between 7 and 10 years before receiving a diagnosis and accessing care.

As highlighted in a recent article by the Ottawa Citizen, Dr. Sony Singh of uOttawa - Faculté de médecine, Faculty of Medicine is calling for earlier diagnosis and better national support for people living with this condition.

“We need leaders, patients, and their loved ones to come together to make this issue a priority,” says Dr. Singh.

Through research, patient advocacy, and innovation in minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Singh and his colleagues are helping to advance endometriosis care and awareness. 🔬

That is why the Faculty of Medicine launched the Endometriosis Education Fund in 2023. 💛

L’endométriose touche 1 personne menstruée sur 10 en âge de procréer 🎗️ — pourtant, au Canada, plusieurs attendent encore entre 7 et 10 ans avant d’obtenir un diagnostic et d’avoir accès à des soins.

Comme le souligne un récent article de l'Ottawa Citizen, le Dr Sony Singh de uOttawa - Faculté de médecine, Faculty of Medicine réclame un diagnostic plus précoce et un meilleur soutien national pour les personnes vivant avec cette maladie.

« Nous avons besoin que les dirigeants, les patients et leurs proches se mobilisent ensemble pour faire de cette question une priorité », affirme le Dr Singh.

Grâce à la recherche, à la défense des intérêts des patients et à l’innovation en chirurgie minimalement invasive, le Dr Singh et ses collaborateurs contribuent à faire progresser les soins et la sensibilisation liés à l’endométriose. 🔬

C’est pourquoi la Faculté de médecine a lancé, en 2023, le Fonds d’éducation sur l’endométriose. 💛

A heart attack’s impact may extend beyond the heart. 🫀🔍

New research from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine and Heart Institute found that after cardiac damage, a toxic molecule spikes and accumulates in regions of the brain linked to depression, anxiety and cognitive decline.

Why this matters:
🧠 Mental health conditions are up to 3× more common following heart attacks.
❤️‍🩹 Depression and anxiety may increase the likelihood of future cardiac events.
