I stopped treating exhaustion as evidence of ambition.
For years, I associated pushing harder with being committed.
Busy meant productive.
Needed meant valuable.
Exhausted meant I was giving it everything I had.
I see ambition differently now.
The question is no longer, “How much more can I do?”
It’s:
Does this require more effort—or a better decision, boundary, system, or tool?
That distinction matters.
Because sustainable ambition isn’t about lowering our standards or wanting less.
It’s about building the capacity, clarity, and systems to pursue meaningful success without making chronic overextension the strategy.
I still believe in ambition.
I still believe in excellence.
I just don’t believe exhaustion should be the price of either.
We don’t need less ambition. We need a more sustainable way to hold it.
