It is so timely that Mental Health Month was chosen to embrace the same period that holds Mother’s Day. As mothers, we have a seemingly unending capacity to care for others. Truth be told, though…some of the most stressed people I have known are mothers.
The demands, worries, and pressures placed on us physically and mentally can set us up for a state of prolonged stress, anxiety, burnout, and depression.
The message of hope in this is that not all forms of stress that we experience are the same: there is the kind of stress from outside forces that we mostly can’t control, and there is the kind of stress that is avoidable, and these are physiological, or within the body that MUCH can be done about.
What if I told you, coming from a trauma-informed integrative nutritionist with an expertise in mental health, that what and when you are eating or NOT eating is just as responsible for your mental health as your thoughts and feelings?
When you’re having difficulty concentrating, a poor memory, low mood, or high anxiety, do you consider that you may be inadequately nourished?
Every one of these states – your thinking, feeling, mental energy, and focus – happens across a network of interconnecting brain cells, each of which depends on an optimal supply of nutrients to work efficiently.
Nutrition can be your first line of defense against the effects of stress and mental health challenges.
Join me for coming posts, where we’ll cover what and when to eat and how it all works. For today, moms? I hope you get to enjoy some rest and time with your most cherished ones.💕
