August is , a time to raise awareness about a condition that affects over 125 million people worldwide, including millions of Canadians.
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes skin cells to build up rapidly, forming scales and patches that can be itchy, inflamed, and painful. But psoriasis isn’t just a skin condition, it can also affect joints, mental health, and overall well-being.
What many people don’t know:
🔹 Psoriasis is not contagious
🔹 It’s linked to other health conditions, including cardiovascular disease
🔹 Stress, certain medications, and infections can trigger or worsen flare-ups
🔹 With the right care, symptoms can be well managed
If you’re living with persistent skin changes or have been diagnosed with psoriasis, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Your overall health matters, skin included.

Spending time outdoors this season? Make tick prevention part of your routine.
Ticks are active from spring through fall and can be found in grassy, wooded, or brushy areas, including your own backyard. Here’s how to protect yourself and your family:
🛡️ Apply an EPA-registered insect repellent containing DEET or picaridin to exposed skin
👕 Wear long sleeves and pants tucked into your socks in wooded areas
🚿 Shower within two hours of coming indoors to wash off unattached ticks
🔍 Do a full body check after every outdoor activity, pay close attention to underarms, behind the knees, hairline, and ears
🐾 Check pets that spend time outdoors regularly
If you find a tick, remove it promptly. The sooner it’s removed, the lower the risk of infection.

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria spread through the bite of an infected tick. It’s most common in wooded, grassy, or brushy areas, and ticks are most active from spring through fall.
Symptoms often appear in stages and may include:
🔴 A bull’s-eye rash around the bite site
🔴 Fever, headache, and extreme fatigue
🔴 In later stages, joint pain, nerve issues, and irregular heartbeat
If you’ve spent time outdoors and notice any of these symptoms, see a healthcare provider as soon as possible. Early diagnosis leads to better outcomes.

Vacines are one of the most effective tools we have to protect our health and they matter at every stage of life, not just in childhood.
The WHO estimates immunization prevents 2–3 million deaths globally every year. Yet vaccination rates in Canada and the United States have been declining, leading to the return of diseases that were once rarely seen.
Staying up to date on your vaccines helps protect you, your family, and your community.
🔹 Check that your vaccinations are current for your age and health conditions
🔹 Ask your provider about vaccines recommended for travel or your workplace
🔹 Keep a record of your immunization history for easy reference
Not sure if you’re up to date? Speak with a healthcare provider.

July is Hepatitis Awareness Month! Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver and can be complex, as each type (A, B, and C) requires a specific approach. Swipe through to learn the different ways they spread, and more importantly, how you can protect yourself.

While they all differ in spread, they share one common risk: unprotected s*x can lead to transmission. Taking precautions, using barrier methods like condoms, and knowing your status are vital steps for your overall health. Many people carry hepatitis without any symptoms.
Testing is the ONLY way to know for sure. Early diagnosis leads to better outcomes.

Brain injuries can affect anyone, at any age, and their impact often extends beyond the visible symptoms. Changes in memory, concentration, mood, communication, and daily functioning can continue long after the initial injury.
🧠 Brain injuries may result from falls, sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, strokes, or other medical conditions.
🧠 Many individuals living with brain injuries face challenges that are not immediately apparent to others.
🧠 Early assessment, rehabilitation, and ongoing support can play an important role in recovery and quality of life.
This month, we recognize the resilience of those living with brain injuries and help raise awareness about the importance of understanding, support, and access to care.
