Brain injuries can affect anyone, at any age, and their impact often extends beyond the visible symptoms. Changes in memory, concentration, mood, communication, and daily functioning can continue long after the initial injury.
🧠 Brain injuries may result from falls, sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, strokes, or other medical conditions.
🧠 Many individuals living with brain injuries face challenges that are not immediately apparent to others.
🧠 Early assessment, rehabilitation, and ongoing support can play an important role in recovery and quality of life.
This month, we recognize the resilience of those living with brain injuries and help raise awareness about the importance of understanding, support, and access to care.

Over 3.8 million Canadians live with asthma, and more than half of them have symptoms that aren’t well controlled.
Asthma causes the airways to become inflamed and narrow, making breathing difficult. Common symptoms include:
🔴 Frequent coughing or wheezing
🔴 Shortness of breath during physical activity
🔴 Waking up at night due to breathing difficulties
If these symptoms sound familiar, your asthma may need better management. With the right care and action plan, most people with asthma can sleep well, stay active, and live without daily disruptions.
Don’t ignore the signs. Speak with a healthcare provider about your breathing.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s a good time to talk about the most common cancer in Canada.
About one third of all new cancer diagnoses in Canada are skin cancers, and the numbers continue to rise. The good news? Most cases are preventable.
Here’s how to protect your skin this season:
☀️ Cover up - wear light-coloured, long-sleeved clothing and a wide-brimmed hat when the UV index is 3 or higher
🕐 Limit midday sun - UV exposure is strongest between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
🏖️ Skip the tanning bed - there is no such thing as a safe tan
Sun safety is a year-round habit, not just a summer one. Start building yours today.

Mental health is not just the absence of illness, it’s the foundation of how we think, feel, connect, and move through the world.
This Mental Health Week, we want to take a moment to acknowledge something important: more than one billion people worldwide are living with a mental health condition. Yet the gap between those who need support and those who receive it remains wide.
Small steps that support mental well-being include:
🤝 Staying connected - meaningful relationships are protective
🏘️ Seeking safe environments - at home, at work, and in community
💬 Talking to someone - a healthcare provider, counsellor, or trusted person
At Astra Medical Clinic, your mental well-being is part of your whole health. Our team is here to listen and help connect you with the right support.

Fertility challenges affect 1 in 6 Canadians, yet conversations about reproductive health and family-building are often difficult or delayed. Canadian Fertility Awareness Week helps raise awareness, encourage open discussions, and support access to fertility care.
Fertility interventions are recommended after 12 months of unprotected sexual in*******se for women or people with ovaries under the age of 35 and after six (6) months of in*******se for women or people with ovaries after the age of 35 or based on medical, sexual, and reproductive history, physical findings and diagnostic testing. Fertility awareness involves understanding the menstrual cycle and identifying the fertile window, the days when pregnancy is most likely. This can be done by tracking:
🌡️ Basal body temperature changes
📅 Menstrual cycle patterns
💧 Cervical mucus changes
Learning how the body works can help individuals better understand their reproductive health, whether they are planning for pregnancy now or in the future.

April is IBS Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about digestive health.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects millions of people, yet many delay seeking medical advice. Digestive symptoms are often dismissed as temporary discomfort, and some people may feel embarrassed discussing them.
However, persistent symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, or diarrhea should not be ignored.
Early consultation with a healthcare provider can help identify possible causes, provide guidance, and improve quality of life.
At Astra Medical Clinic, our team is here to support patients with digestive health concerns and help them find the right care.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common digestive conditions, affecting an estimated 5–10% of people worldwide. Yet many individuals remain undiagnosed or unsure that their symptoms may be linked to a medical condition.
Common symptoms can include:
• Abdominal pain or cramps
• Changes in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation, or both)
• Bloating, gas, or abdominal discomfort
Although IBS can affect people at any age, it is most commonly diagnosed between 20 and 40 years old.
If you have ongoing digestive symptoms, speaking with a healthcare provider can help determine the cause and guide appropriate management.

Kidneys play a vital role in keeping the body healthy by filtering waste, balancing fluids, and regulating blood pressure. Yet kidney disease often develops silently, with few symptoms until it becomes advanced.
🔹 Know your risk factors: Diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and a family history of kidney disease can increase your risk.
🔹 Get tested early (if at risk): Simple tests such as the eGFR blood test and uACR urine test help detect kidney problems before symptoms appear.
🔹 Support kidney health: Staying active, eating a balanced diet, managing stress, and properly controlling conditions like diabetes and hypertension can help protect kidney function.
Early detection and healthy habits play an important role in preventing kidney disease and supporting long-term health.
