Family and friends
When I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure, I knew an uphill journey would be in the cards for me, but I never imagined I’d need to ask for help to find a living kidney donor. And although reality still hasn’t fully sunk in, here I am with a big ask of all of you to help save my life. As you may know, finding a match is complex, but I am hopeful and deeply grateful for any help you can offer me in finding one.
I have been a patient of the Kidney Clinic at St. Paul's Hospital since 2016. For the past several years, my kidney function has declined. I am reaching out to my friends and their networks to find a living donor before I need dialysis. Receiving a kidney from a live donor is the best option, as it offers the highest possible success rate https://www.transplant.bc.ca/organ-donation/living/kidney-donation
Donors don't need to match my blood type because Canada operates a living-donor paired-exchange program. In this system, you donate to someone else in exchange for a matched kidney for the recipient (https://www.blood.ca/en/organs-tissues/living-organ-donation/kidney-paired-donation).
If you're interested in learning more about living donation, feel free to reach out to the donor nurse coordinator at St. Paul’s Hospital.
