Mindfulness - being mindful is a great way to connect with our thoughts/feelings and to observe them not just accept them for what they are. The more mindful we are the better we are at acknowledging these emotions and learning to respond to them with a more clear mind.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The best way to become more mindful is to practice meditation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are 9 steps that can help you mindfully meditate:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Set a time aside each day to meditate and create a space that's free from distractions⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Start small and work your way up. You can meditate for as little as 2 minutes and then work your way up to as long as you need.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. get into a comfortable position so you don't have to adjust your sitting throughout the meditation.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. make sure you have good posture as this will help you with your breathing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. practice deep breathing to help relax the body.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. focus on your breath to distract you from your wandering mind.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
7. keep focused on your breath and if you lose focus redirect it back to breathing. This will help you let go of thoughts/feelings that might creep in.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
8. be kind to yourself, don't let your thoughts/feelings take over, and don't judge yourself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
9. slowly come out of your relaxed state and don't rush it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now go find your safe space and practice these 9 steps.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Happy meditating. 🧘‍♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Are you new at meditation? If so, I have put together a few useful tips for beginners.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣. Find a space that makes you feel safe and that is quiet. You don't want to be interrupted while in the middle of your meditation. If there are things in the room like cell phones turn them off to avoid distraction.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣. Make sure your posture is good! You want to sit on the floor or in a chair with good support. If you are most comfortable laying down you can do that as well.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣. Focus on your breathing. I have discussed a few breathing techniques in a previous post, look back to this to learn how to breathe properly.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣. You will start to have thoughts, this is normal. Accept the thoughts and then focus back on your breathing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5️⃣. If you are new at this no more than 5 minutes is sufficient. The more comfortable you get with meditation the longer you can meditate.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6️⃣. Slowly leave your meditative state and get back into your day. Try finishing off the meditation session by doing some stretching and some deep breathing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a great place to start your meditation journey. If you are still unsure try watching some YouTube videos that will help guide you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

How does meditation really work on the brain?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today I want to walk you through the process of meditation and what happens in the brain when we meditate.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In order to explain how meditation works, we must first know how signals are sent and received within the brain.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We have synapses between the nerve cells in the brain or junctions/gaps, information runs along these nerves and must pass through the synapse and continue on down another nerve pathway. Chemical neurotransmitters are what transfer this signal from one nerve to the other in the synapses. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The signals transmitted are either a stimulus or relaying an action back to the body. In other words, our body tells us the stove is hot and we move our hand off it within nano-seconds to avoid burning our hand.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because of something called neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to create new neural pathways and networks for information to travel) we can meditate and change the way in which we receive information and react when feelings get involved.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we first start meditating we are taking note of our thoughts/feelings and watching them go. The more we meditate the better we will become at picking up on our thoughts and feelings outside of meditation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This creates a delay in the synapses and gives us time to think about our thoughts/feelings and then gives us time to better respond instead of just impulsively responding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you struggle with acting impulsively, try meditation.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
