Ever hear of “The Circle of the Traveling Legs”?. Neither have we. We made it up. But when you hold a gala and you have 4 magnificent arty centre pieces left, what do you do? Well, we feel that art should be shared, so we are dropping off 2 sets of legs to 2 lucky community supporters. But they can only keep
them for a while before passing them on. Our first recipient is Scott Sleightholm from Kenny Insurance Brokers. Display these legs proudly Scott! We know that you will treat them with the love and respect they deserve.

The big question now is….who gets the other pair?

Saturday June 6th was a night to remember. A night where our community showed up for Our Place Respite. When we first imagined our Gala, we had long conversations about what we wanted it to look and feel like. We didn't want it to be just another fundraiser. We wanted people to understand who we are, why we do this work, and the people at the heart of everything we do. We wanted it to feel honest to Our Place Respite. What unfolded was something incredibly special. The evening was intimate, emotional, and deeply personal. Through the stories, videos, artwork, conversations, and shared moments, people got to see the heart of Our Place Respite. Many guests told us that everything about the night felt authentic, and that meant so much to us.
Another thing that mattered was that people showed up. They bought tickets. They sponsored tables. They donated auction items. They bid generously. They shared our story. They believed in us. Because of that support, we are thrilled to share that the Flourish Gala raised $34,000.00 for Our Place Respite.
As a small Not for Profit that receives no core government funding, community support isn't just appreciated, it directly impacts our ability to continue supporting adults with disabilities and their families.
Because of the generosity of everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, volunteered, and cheered us on, we can continue providing meaningful programming, community connections, individualized supports, staff training, and opportunities that many of the people we support would not otherwise have access to. The impact of this evening will be felt long after the decorations have been packed away.
To every guest, sponsor, donor, volunteer, staff member, family member, and supporter, thank you for believing in what we're building. You didn't just attend a Gala. You invested in a community where people belong, where differences are celebrated, and where every person is valued. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We are still learning. We are still growing. We are always trying to do better than we did the day before. And because of this community, we get to keep moving forward.

8 years ago today, we started with a small space, a big idea, and a group of people who deserved more. What began with 16 adults and a lot of figuring things out as we went has grown into a community, we are endlessly proud of. Over the last 8 years, we’ve shared laughter, hard days, milestones, art, dancing, road trips, tears, inside jokes, growth, and thousands of moments that mattered. This video is made up of pieces of those moments. The people, the memories, the chaos, the joy, and the community that built Our Place Respite into what it is today. Our staff surprised us with this video, and it means more than we can put into words. Over these 8 years, we have always been learning, growing, and trying to do better than we did the day before.

To our staff, families, supporters, volunteers, community partners, and especially the people we support every single day — thank you for growing with us and believing in what this place could become.
