When you tell your laser tech you’ve been working on your tan all summer but still want to laser the area… 🚪🏃‍♀️😂

Okay, we’re being dramatic. BUT there’s a reason your laser tech is asking about sun exposure before your appointment. 👀☀️

You CAN get Laser Hair Removal during the summer, but we don’t recommend treating areas with a fresh tan or significant recent sun exposure.

When your skin tans, melanin activity increases. Because laser targets pigment, that extra melanin can compete with the hair follicle for the laser’s energy. This can make your treatment less effective and increase the risk of unwanted reactions like:

☀️ Burns or blistering
☀️ Skin irritation and sensitivity
☀️ Hyperpigmentation or dark spots
☀️ Hypopigmentation or light spots

But that doesn’t mean your entire laser routine has to take the summer off!

Areas that stay covered, like your Brazilian, bikini and underarms, are typically much easier to safely continue treating throughout the summer. 🙌

For other areas, protect that skin! Use a mineral SPF (we LOVE Colorescience), cover up when possible and always let your laser tech know about recent sun exposure or tanning before your treatment.
