Lauren will be onsite at Angelstone this week for Caledon Dressage!

Show environments can create extra stress, tension, and muscle fatigue, and supporting your horse’s body during competition can make a world of difference in their comfort, recovery, and overall performance.

While Lauren is at the shows, you’ll be able to book:
〽️ BEMER sessions – circulation support, recovery, and relaxation
💨 Nebulizer treatments – respiratory support for dusty or high‑pollen environments
➿ Kinesiology taping – targeted support for muscles, fascia, and movement patterns
♨️ Red light therapy – localized relief for tension, soreness, and soft‑tissue concerns

These services are perfect for maintaining peak performance, aiding post‑round recovery, and helping your horse stay loose, comfortable, and ready for the next class — feel free to pre‑book or contact her between rounds.

Let’s keep your horses feeling strong, supple, and show‑ready all summer long!

✨ The Power Duo: Balance Pads + Kinesiology Taping ✨

Helping your horse move better isn’t just about big exercises — sometimes the smallest inputs create the biggest changes. Two of the most effective tools for improving posture, stability, and body awareness are balance pad work and kinesiology taping. Used together, they create a powerful neuromuscular reset that supports both performance and rehab.

Standing on a balance pad turns a simple posture into a full-body workout. Great for horses with SI weakness, stifle/hock instability, topline concerns, or those who tend to stand crooked. The unstable surface encourages your horse to:

✅ Activate deep core and stabilizer muscles
✅ Improve proprioception and limb awareness
✅ Increase joint mobility in the hocks, stifles, and SI
✅ Reduce bracing patterns and stand more evenly
✅ Strengthen weak areas and improve symmetry

Decompression and stabilization taping work with the nervous system to improve comfort and movement quality. Perfect for horses with lumbar tension, SI discomfort, weak hind-end engagement, or chronic compensation patterns.

✅ Lifting the skin to reduce fascial tension
✅ Supporting lymphatic drainage and circulation
✅ Softening guarded or overworked muscles
✅ Improving proprioceptive input (“movement reminders”)
✅ Supporting weak areas like the glutes, abdominals, and multifidus
✅ Helping maintain alignment after bodywork

Balance pads and kinesiology taping pair beautifully because the tape first reduces tension and improves proprioception, helping the horse step onto the pad already primed to use the correct stabilizer muscles. Once on the pad, the horse can balance more evenly, move softer through the body, and build strength with better awareness, creating a more coordinated and confident posture overall.

Owners often see their horse standing more square, moving with a softer back and SI, and pushing more evenly from behind. Many horses trip less, stay more focused, and feel more consistent and comfortable under saddle.

Better weather means more miles on the road — early mornings, long hauls, quick turnarounds, and horses expected to step off the trailer ready to work. But even the calmest, most seasoned travellers build tension in very predictable ways. These patterns are subtle, often invisible, yet they directly influence how your horse feels, moves, and behaves.

🐴 Poll & Upper Neck — The Balance Control Centre
Horses constantly stabilize their head and neck during every acceleration, stop, and turn. This creates tension through the poll and upper cervical muscles, often showing up as stiffness, difficulty bending, or resistance in the bridle.

🩻 Shoulders & Pectorals — The Emergency Brakes
Braking and downhill travel shift weight onto the forehand. The shoulders and pectorals work overtime to prevent sliding, leading to shortened stride, tripping, and heaviness in the front end.

🐎 SI Joint & Hindquarters — The Shock Absorbers
The hind end absorbs most of the lateral forces during turns. Horses brace through the SI, glutes, and hamstrings to stay upright, which can create crookedness, weak push‑off, and reluctance to engage.

🌬 Ribcage & Intercostals — The Breathing + Balance Zone
Balancing activates the intercostal muscles and can restrict breathing. This tightens the ribcage fascia, limiting bend and making the horse feel tight through the barrel.

🦵 Hamstrings & Gastroc — The Stabilizers
Long periods of bracing lead to tight hamstrings and gastroc muscles. This affects hind‑end reach, transitions, and overall softness behind.

🧠 Nervous System Tension — The Silent Passenger
Even calm haulers experience sensory overload from vibration, noise, confinement, and anticipation. This creates nervous system tension that often shows up as reactivity, difficulty focusing, or a “hotter” horse at the show.

Supporting your horse before and after travel is one of the most effective way to keep them feeling their best all season long.

Absolutely — collaborative care is a huge part of what we do!

Lauren is always happy to work alongside your vet, farrier, saddle fitter, bodyworker, or coach to support your horse’s overall comfort and performance.

✔️ Veterinarians
📌We never diagnose — we support the plan your vet has in place
We complement veterinary care with:
- Soft‑tissue tension
- Post‑injury muscle support
- Recovery and circulation

✔️ Farriers
Body tension often shows up in the feet, and hoof changes can show up in the body. We work alongside farriers to help:
- Improve balance and posture
- Reduce compensatory tension
- Support horses with chronic hoof issues

✔️ Saddle Fitters
Muscle tightness can affect saddle fit, and poor saddle fit can create muscle tightness. We assist to:
- Identify asymmetries
- Track changes in topline
- Keep the horse comfortable under saddle

✔️ Coaches & Trainers
We help support the training program by:
- Addressing stiffness that affects performance
- Improving range of motion
- Helping horses stay focused and relaxed
- Supporting recovery during intense show seasons

✔️ Other Bodyworkers
I collaborate seamlessly with other equine bodyworkers to ensure your horse receives consistent, well‑rounded care.
- Share insights on muscle patterns, tension areas, and changes over time
- Coordinate session plans to avoid overlap and support what each modality is working toward
- Help track progress, recovery, and performance throughout training and show season

Collaborative care ensures your horse gets well‑rounded support from every professional on their team. Strong communication makes it easier to spot patterns early, address issues proactively, and keep your horse moving comfortably. Teamwork helps maintain consistent performance throughout training and show season.

🚨 These Signs Matter

Show season demands a lot from your horse — long days, intense work, travel, heat, and quick turnarounds. Even fit, well‑conditioned horses can start to show subtle signs that their muscles are working harder than they can comfortably recover from. These early indicators are easy to miss, but catching them now prevents bigger issues later in the season.

Show season is demanding — but your horse doesn’t have to feel it. Here is how HealthEquine Therapies services and products help your horse's overworked muscles:
✅ Massage to release tension and restore mobility
✅ BEMER to improve circulation and speed recovery
✅ Incrediwear Equine for post‑work or post‑travel support
✅ Omega Alpha muscle support for repair and hydration
✅ EquiThalasso for deep, natural muscle comfort

Overworked muscles don’t just affect performance — they change posture, movement patterns, and even behaviour. Left unaddressed, they can lead to compensations, soreness, and mid‑season burnout.
