When did movement become something we only did to change our bodies?

To burn calories.
To lose weight.
To earn our food.
To keep up with someone else's expectations.

What if we moved simply because it feels good?

Because our minds feel a little clearer after a walk.

Because stretching releases the tension we've been carrying all day.

Because dancing in the kitchen makes us smile.

Because hiking reminds us to slow down.

Because our bodies weren't meant to stay still—they were meant to move.

Research consistently shows that physical activity can help reduce stress, ease symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve sleep and support overall mental well-being.

But beyond the research, many of us have experienced it ourselves.

A walk that helped untangle our thoughts.

A yoga class that helped us breathe a little deeper.

Time outside that left us feeling lighter than when we started.

Maybe movement doesn't have to be something we force ourselves to do.

Maybe it can become one of the ways we care for our mental health.

🤍 Reflection:

The next time you move your body, notice how you feel afterward.

Not how many calories you burned.
Not how long you exercised.

Just how you feel.

Many people share these thoughts when they’re starting therapy for the first time.

Every time I hear those words, I’m reminded that I once felt the same way.

I remember knowing that something didn’t feel quite right. I knew I needed something to change, but I couldn’t have told you exactly what it was.

Sometimes, we don’t have the words yet.

Sometimes, all we know is that we’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, exhausted or simply not like ourselves anymore.

And that’s okay.

You don’t need to hold it all together here.

We can slow things down, sit with what feels present and gently begin to make sense of what you’re experiencing—at your own pace.

Sometimes, the first step is simply giving yourself permission to begin. 💛

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the different ways grief and loss can show up during major life transitions.

We often celebrate milestones like pregnancy, retirement, career changes or new beginnings, but we don’t always talk about what can quietly be lost along the way.

A new pregnancy can bring joy and excitement while also bringing changes to routines, independence, relationships and identity.

Retirement may bring freedom and opportunity, but it can also come with a loss of purpose, structure or a sense of who we are when so much of our identity has been tied to our work.

Changes in health can bring grief as we adjust to new limitations, altered expectations or a different version of life than we had imagined.

Separation or divorce can also carry deep loss—not only of a relationship, but of shared dreams, familiar routines and the future we once envisioned.

Often, these losses go unspoken. Yet when we acknowledge our grief, rather than push it away, we create space for acceptance, healing and growth.

If you’re navigating a season of transition, know that you don’t have to move through it alone. 💚

This work is incredibly meaningful to me and I’m so grateful to do what I love, thanks to the wonderful people I get to work with. I truly appreciate the trust my clients place in me as they open up and share their most vulnerable selves.

Ever feel like you’re juggling it all? Work, family, chores, schedules...

I know I do—and I seem to cycle into this. Into the hustle and bustle of everyday.

Sometimes it shows up this way: more tired, less patience, constantly thinking about the next day, week or even month or getting overwhelmed by the smallest task.

This is not how I want to live my life. I want more peace, more ease and more time to simply be.

So when that starts to happen, I remind myself to breathe, tune into what my body has been saying and reach out for support. It's a signal to reassess where my energy is going and create space for myself. Sometimes, that means making the appointment just for me.

Who can relate? If you do, I invite you to connect. Spring is a great time to reset and recenter! 🌸

Can food impact mental health?

It may seem surprising that what you eat could influence your mood and emotional well being.

Science now shows a strong connection between your gut and your brain.

Your brain relies on key neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine to regulate mood.

About 95 percent of serotonin receptors are located in the gut.

This helps explain why gut health and mental health are closely linked.

When you feel butterflies in your stomach during stress, that is your gut brain connection at work.

The vagus nerve plays a central role in this two way communication between the brain and the body.

What you eat directly influences this system.

A fiber rich diet feeds beneficial gut bacteria. These bacteria produce short chain fatty acids, which can cross the blood brain barrier and influence brain function.

The body tightly regulates what enters the brain.

The fact that these compounds are allowed through suggests they play an important role. Increasing fiber intake from whole plant foods can support a healthier gut environment and may positively influence mood through reduced inflammation.

Inflammation affects both physical and mental health.

People with chronic inflammation often show higher rates of depression and elevated C reactive protein levels.

But dietary patterns matter more than individual nutrients.

Diets high in processed foods, animal products, dairy, and saturated fats are associated with increased inflammation and higher depression risk.

Diets rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and seeds can reduce inflammatory markers, in some studies by up to 30 percent within a few weeks.

A plant predominant dietary pattern supports cardiovascular health and may also support mental well being.

Even specific spices can offer benefits, and they add much more than just flavour.

Many contain antioxidant and anti inflammatory compounds.

Turmeric, saffron, cumin, and ginger have shown potential benefits in reducing some symptoms of depression and anxiety in clinical studies.

Herbs such as rosemary, parsley, and thyme may support focus and cognitive performance.

Incorporating these into meals is a practical way to enhance dietary quality.

Dietary fats also matter.

Saturated fats, commonly found in animal products, high fat dairy, coconut, and palm oil, are associated with increased inflammation.

Unsaturated fats, particularly omega 3 fatty acids, support brain structure and function and have anti inflammatory effects.

Plant sources of omega 3s include ground flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and h**p seeds.

Including these regularly can contribute to long term brain health.

Highly processed foods can trigger rapid dopamine release, leading to short term pleasure followed by a crash. This pattern may reinforce cravings and contribute to mood instability.

These foods are also typically low in fiber.

Reduced fiber intake can negatively affect gut bacteria and decrease production of beneficial short chain fatty acids.

Focusing on whole, minimally processed foods supports both metabolic and mental health.

Diet should form the foundation of mental health support.

In some cases, specific nutrients may be helpful.

Vitamin D supports brain and immune function. Magnesium plays a role in stress regulation and relaxation and may help those who are consuming magnesium deficient diets. Omega 3 fatty acids support cognitive health and inflammation control.

Supplementation should be considered based on individual needs and laboratory assessment.

The bottom line is limiting proinflammatory foods and increasing whole plant foods can support both physical and mental health.

Feeding your gut bacteria with fiber, choosing healthy fats, and incorporating antioxidant rich herbs and spices are practical strategies that can have meaningful effects on mental health.

A plant predominant pattern may improve mood, focus, and cognitive resilience.

And remember that your diet isn’t only what you eat, but what you read, what you watch, what you think and who you surround yourself with.

I truly believe in the power of intention ✨

Intention is a way of bringing presence, awareness and conscious choice into how we move through life.

It gently guides our energy, our actions and the way we show up.

In my work—as a holistic therapist and yoga teacher—I intentionally set an intention at the beginning of each class and for every client I work with. Not to force change, but to create space. Space to slow down, to listen and to move with more clarity and purpose.

Setting intentions doesn’t have to be reserved for the start of the year. We can choose again at any moment. But the new year can be a beautiful opportunity to reflect on the direction we’d like our life to take—often through small, meaningful shifts. How you want to feel. The energy you want to cultivate. The gentle changes that can support your mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Wishing everyone a happy new year filled with purpose, presence and growth 🤍

I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to all of my clients who have trusted me to walk alongside them — to support, witness and hold space for healing and growth.

I know this is no small thing🤍
Meeting someone new, opening up and sharing the tender, sometimes painful parts of ourselves takes immense courage.

I am truly grateful for each of you and for this journey that has allowed me to step more fully into my own purpose and align with my truth. This path would not be possible without you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Wishing you a holiday season filled with love and light 🎄✨
