I was saddened to learn that today, Joan Matthews passed away at the age of 94.

Joan was one of the first people I met when I came here to Sutton. She welcomed me like family, she inspired me through her yoga classes, from our heart to heart chats, and through her writing (her book pictured here)…

She was truly a person who lived and breathed yoga in its truest form. She encouraged me to learn more, to keep the true values and philosophies of yoga both in my classes and in my life, and she inspired me in her constant practice, teaching yoga and meditation herself until the age of 93.

I was honoured to teach in her beautiful space for a few years. I know there were so many people whose lives have been impacted in her yoga centre, which incredibly was opened a few years after I was born!!

Joan was not only an inspiration, she was a shining light, a great laugh, and the kindest soul I’ve ever met.

Thank you Joan for being such a blessing to so many, and to me. I hope we meet again in the next life!
