There's a ton of different reasons and fads going around as to why people don't eat for periods of time. All with varying degrees of effectiveness, but it's always challenging.

So I'm curious, how long have you gone without food? Why did you do it? What did you get out of it?

This is one of then last things I ate, 13 days ago.

Chopped grilled collard greens and broccoli.

-Coat veg in a little EVO and Himalayan salt
-Grill for collards for 2 min each side (don't let it dry out and turn to chips), grill broccoli for 3 min each side.
-Chop veg and toss with salt and pepper more EVO and lemon juice.

Take a Hike!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's easy to get in a rut right now, as it's hard to get out and do anything now that we're in another lockdown (in Ontario). But how does this relate to gut health? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There's a couple things getting outside helps with:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- physical movement helps move food through your intestines⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- reduces stress. one thing that's sure to aggravate your digestive symptoms is stress, and can even cause your issues all together!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's good to get yourself out and do different things, we're not left with many options these days. Getting outside and connecting with nature is something I've been recommending since well before the pandemic ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What foods trigger your symptoms? And what are your symptoms?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are so many foods you can have reactions to. I'm interested in the ones you don't think of, causing issues you wouldn't normally associate. Like lactose free dairy causing acne. Or cauliflower causing bloating. Or sugar (which is pure energy) causing tiredness. Or wheat causing you to lose the ability to concentrate.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you noticed these for yourself? Or do you suspect you have one you haven't found yet? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Is this healthy?

This is a great plate, full of vegetables, healthy fats, lots of antioxidants, fiber and more! This is a great (and beautiful) plate for those who don't have issues digestive issues.

But not everything that's healthy for some people are healthy for others. For Example:

For those with SIBO, IBS or IBD. FODMAPs (fermentable short-chain carbohydrates) can trigger symptoms of bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, etc. So things like avocado, garlic and chickpeas can be irritating

Or those with IBD who might need to be on an SCD Diet (specific carbohydrate) where sweet potato and chickpeas would be an issue

Or people with who are sensitive to nightshades who can be triggered by peppers and tomatoes increasing gut inflammation and symptoms

Some foods that are beneficial and healthy can cause a lot of issues for others.

Myth #1 - is that eating more often increases metabolism. Truth - increasing activity level, eating foods that take more energy to digest i.e. protein. Age also naturally decreases as we age.

Myth #2 - is that fasting lowers your energy. Truth - our body uses energy to digest food, and if you're digestion is suboptimal eating can leave you more tired after the meal than before. When you fast your body taps into its own stores of energy and utilizes it at more consistent levels rather than solely from food which can cause blood sugar crashes, or as mentioned before can cause fatigue right after eating.

Myth #3 - is that your brain needs a constant intake of glucose. Truth - your brain does need energy BUT your body does store glucose and can produce it if needed out of protein. More than that your brain can run off of what are called ketones which are produced by the body when it's burning fat as fuel.

What does it take to build a healthy lifestyle?

Roadmap - get clear about what direction you want to be heading

Physical - the physical entities: food, timing, sleep

Mental - how emotions impact your actions and habits and make sure they're supporting you in your direction to your goals

Environment - what surrounds you and who you're surrounded by makes a big impact on what you do, changes to this can help or hinder your progress.
