Top money tip: AUTOMATE

automating your savings/bill payments/investments is one of the BEST things you can do for yourself!

Think of it this way. Instead of having to track everything, remember to pay a bill, or transfer money to your savings every. single. week… just set it up once and forget about it. It’s literally done for you.

Create a budget and add these amounts to it either per month or per paycheque. Need help deciding or setting it up? Send me a dm!

Investing made easy 🤍

One of the BIGGEST setbacks I hear when it comes to women and investing is

‘It’s too complicated’

‘I don’t have the time or energy to learn all about the stock market’

Or my favourite:
‘It’s more of a guy’s thing, I’ll leave it up to my partner’

LADIES. I felt like a fish out of water when I started working in investments at the bank. But if there’s ONE thing I learned being a woman in a male dominated industry, it’s that you DON’T have to be like them.

Investing your money is easy and simple and all you need to know are the basics. Watching the market all the time, hearing all of the fancy terms and trying to keep up - very few people actually do this.

Investing to me is a long term game - I buy and hold. I don’t trade. I don’t care about the trends or whether the market is up or down. I buy good, long term investments every week that pay dividends, that’s it.

My goal is to one day live off these investments, not watch the screens 24/7.

So, protect your money. Secure your future. And live the soft life you dream of ✨🫶🏼

Getting started on your financial journey? Make sure you have ALL of these accounts:

1. Chequing - guys honestly, this account is only used for day to day spending. Do not use this account to keep savings. Bonus points for having a no fee chequing account, you can open one at Tangerine Bank (my fave bank ever!)

2. Savings - this is a SHORT TERM savings account! Meaning if you're saving up to buy something in particular such as a car, a trip, a shopping spree, gifts, whatever in the NEAR FUTURE.

3. Emergency Fund - this is a SEPARATE savings account used in the event of an emergency ONLY. You should have 3-6 months of living expenses in this account.

4. TFSA - Tax free savings accounts are not a regular savings account guys. Open up a TFSA at a BROKERAGE, like WealthSimple or QuestTrade. You're supposed to buy investments in this account.

5. RRSP - Registered Retirement Savings Plans are a LONG TERM investment account to be used for income when you retire. This should also be opened at a brokerage.

What other accounts do you guys have/think are necessary? Let me know in the comments! 👇🏼

Comparing yourself to others is one of the fastest ways to get into a LOT of debt. Buying clothes, shoes, cars, etc. consumer culture and social media are probably making you feel like you’re behind, but look at the stats! You’re not!

No shade to those who love nice cars and fancy things (we all do, and I’m one of them!) but owning a brand new $50K car is NOT on my list of things I want to spend on. I would rather drive my 2016 Hyundai Elantra and go on multiple vacations a year and spend my money on going out and shopping than on a car.

Everything in moderation, right?

One of the main reasons so many women struggle when it comes to finances is because we were just never taught how to manage money.

From a young age, we were either taught it’s for the men to handle, or we weren’t taught about it at all. Money was never a topic in my household growing up, so I had to learn everything on my own.

The biggest takeaway I can give to you from spending years learning how to manage my money is that it’s so simple, you just need to have a goal and a plan to reach that goal.

Keep an emergency fund, invest for the future, and spend your money on the things that bring you joy. That’s really all there is to it.

Stop listening to people telling you to stop spending, to budget every dollar, or keep cash envelopes.

Have you ever worked at a job you HATE and dream about leaving, but you can’t quit because that paycheque hits real nice?

(We’ve all been there)

Imagine waking up one day and instead of going in to work, you call and say F you, I quit.

Now you’re not actually going to call in to say that cause you’ll need that reference in the future, but here’s what you can do to set yourself up so that you can leave that s**tty job and find one that doesn’t drain your soul. You need a F**K YOU fund.

An f-you fund is basically a provocative way to say emergency fund. This is money set aside in case you can’t stand your manager another minute and need to quit before you have a menty b (mental breakdown), or if your dog swallows your sock and needs to go to the vet, or if you get a flat tire and need to call a tow truck.

The easiest, laziest way to build your f-you fund is to simply open up a separate savings account and set up an auto payment to it every week or paycheque, however you prefer to budget.

Happy quitting 👀

The next time someone tells you money can't buy happiness, send them an invoice.

Money is a GAME CHANGER in life. Of course it is not the root cause of happiness - being grateful and content with what you have is - but money sure does help.

Having a nice home, bills paid, kid's future secured, going on vacations, being able to take some time off from work... Add no financial stress, not having to worry if an emergency comes up and treating yourself to nice things whenever you want, it's pretty clear that money may not make you happy but it sure doesn't make you sad.

So, get your s**t together. It's as simple as creating a budget, or just setting aside some money each paycheque. It adds up.

I could be screaming to you all of the steps and tricks to creating the perfect budget for you, but if you don't sit down to actually do it, you're not going to get very far in reaching your goals.

I LOVE creating budgets. To me, they're these visual plans that show you where your money is going and you get to watch your bank accounts grow as you stick to them.

Reaching your financial goals is one of the best feelings, not feeling stressed out about making bill payments, having savings to fall back on if you need to quit your s**tty job or leave a relationship that's not healthy anymore.

So I'm asking you nicely, for future you (you will thank yourself!), sit down and make that budget.
