Trying (adjective) "severely straining the powers of endurance." Happy Mother's Day to the Mothers who are still trying...and trying...and trying. Who wake up every morning, who take their temperature, who get another negative 10 dollar OPK, who skip their coffee, who stress that they're not ovulating, who stress that they're stressed, who stress that their stress is why they're not pregnant (and who then push that thought down as they smile at their co-workers and listen to them talk about their kids). To the Mums who never sleep in, who drive to the fertility clinic, who wait in the waiting room - eyes on their phones - trying to forget where they are. To the Mums who have had more ultrasounds in one week than most Mums will have throughout their entire pregnancy. To the Mums who used to be afraid of needles - but who have had so many now, that they don't even flinch. To the Mums who have bought so many baby presents and who have dreaded so many baby showers and who have beaten themselves up about feeling that way...so. many. times. To the Mums who only eat warm foods; who drink so much water (and so little wine); who take handfuls of supplements; the Mums who time their workouts to be no shorter than 20 minutes and no longer than 40 minutes; who are constantly being given unsolicited advice about "my friend did ### and got pregnant." To the Mother's who get their period and cry. And cry. And who think, "I'm never going to be a Mum." To the Mothers who would do anything. Give anything. Anything. To be a Mum.
Happy Mother's Day. You have been a mother the moment that you decided to try. You have gone past severely straining the powers of endurance - you are power - you are endurance. And your future child(ren), are so loved - so hard - even before they're a + on a pregnancy test. And the world needs so much more of that love - the love of a Mother who would do anything for their baby.
Happy Mother's Day - you inspire me every single day and I love you so hard.
