As we approach one year of the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) we wanted to understand how it is truly impacting our community. 💭

Over the past year, Plan Institute’s community shared their firsthand experiences applying for the CDB. Whether they applied for themselves or on behalf of someone they support, all responses showed a gap in meaningful impact.

Our new report, One Year of the CDB: Understanding Meaningful Impact, combines survey responses with real-time insights from our Disability Planning Helpline. The report covers:

💡 Application realities: The accessibility of the process and challenges in eligibility
💡 Financial impact: The benefit amount is not enough for the additional costs of living with a disability
💡 Systemic barriers: The shared difficulties with navigating the benefit, and deep concerns about Alberta’s clawbacks

We are grateful to everyone who shared their experience to inform our advocacy. Read the report to learn how community feedback shapes our ongoing efforts. 💚

Disability inclusion is both a human rights obligation and an economic imperative. The National Disability Network’s (NDN) Disability Agenda aims to turn Canada’s commitments into measurable outcomes. 🌱

Plan Institute is a member of the NDN to advance our shared mission in disability inclusion. During National AccessAbility Week, the NDN is identifying advocacy priorities for the next three years through our joint Disability Agenda.

The agenda calls on the Government of Canada to:
➡️ Make the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) law in Canada
➡️ Modernize federal disability program eligibility
➡️ Adopt a government-wide disability inclusion policy
➡️ Strengthen and sustain the Canada Disability Benefit
➡️ Advance accessible, inclusive housing and employment

The Government of Canada has established strong policy and legislative foundations through the Accessible Canada Act and Disability Inclusion Plan. However, many systemic barriers remain. 🫂

Are you covered under the Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP)? Renew your coverage today! 🔔

Today is the final day to renew your CDCP coverage for the 2026-2027 benefit year. The plan needs to be renewed every year to keep your dental coverage active and confirm your eligibility.

You can still submit your renewal before tonight’s deadline at 11:59pm ET, if you miss this deadline, your coverage will end on June 30, 2026. You will have to apply again, and there will be a gap in your coverage until the application is approved. Applications for the CDCP open starting tomorrow at 8am ET.

This plan helps make the cost of dental care more affordable for eligible people. You may be eligible if:

✅ You do not have access to private dental insurance or coverage
✅ You filed your tax returns for the previous year
✅ Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000
✅ You’re a resident in Canada for tax purposes

🔗 Visit canada.ca/dental to renew your plan or learn how to apply.

28/05/2026

The Government of Canada has committed to building a barrier-free Canada by 2040. The National Disability Network’s (NDN) pre-budget joint submission provides recommendations for opportunities to move towards this goal in Budget 2026. 🌱

As a proud member of the NDN, we are collectively advocating to:

➡️ Legislate the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities into Canadian law
➡️ Fund and create a new approach to federal disability eligibility
➡️ Develop, implement, and enforce a government-wide disability inclusion policy
➡️ Strengthen and increase the Canada Disability Benefit
➡️ Invest in accessible, inclusive, and affordable housing
➡️ Stabilize and increase funding for disability employment programs

Plan Institute, alongside the NDN, is committed to working with the federal government in advancing these priorities and to continue advocating for lasting impact. 💚
