Introducing the the Healthcare Employee Relations Awards of British Columbia (HEABCs).

The BC Health Care Awards program has been relaunched with a new name, look and feel, focusing on health sector human resource and labour relations related practices. Presented by the Health Employers Association of BC, the HEABCs recognize human resources and labour relations professionals who work with our members and health care professionals to create a labour relations environment that supports the delivery of high-quality health care.

There is still time to recognize outstanding workplace health and safety initiatives—nominations for the 2026 HEABC Awards close in just one week.

Across three award categories, one health authority and one affiliate member will be recognized for a project, initiative, or practice that advances the health, safety, and well-being of health care workers while aligning with Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards for occupational health and safety and psychological health and safety in the workplace. Only one week left to place a nomination! We've adjusted our DEI award category and its updated title is Leading Practices: Just and Right Relations.

One health authority and one affiliate member will be recognized for a project, initiative or practice that demonstrates meaningful progress toward just and right relations–in our workplaces and with those we serve.

Just relations reflect the obligations we hold under human rights frameworks. This commitment reflects justice across the full spectrum of inclusion, including the promotion of belonging through anti-racism and anti-discrimination efforts.

Right relations reflect the obligations we hold to Indigenous Peoples as rightsholders. This commitment advances Indigenous-Specific Anti-Racism (ISAR) and advancing cultural safety, with efforts anchored and aligned with recommendations from formative reports (e.g., TRC, MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA, In Plain Sight, DRIPA, Declaration Action Plan.)

Nominations can be submitted in either Just relations (DEI work) or Right Relations (ISAR work). One Award of Merit may be presented in each class (affiliates and health authorities) at the discretion of the judging panel.

Northern Health's HR Planning and Analytics Team has helped to embed a culture of innovation by educating leaders on the analytics tools available to support data-driven decision-making and ensuring the tools they develop are accessible to frontline managers. For this reason, Northern Health took home an HEABC Award in the category of Leading Human Resource and/or Labour Relations Practices.
