When a patients MD starts referring their other patients to you because of the clinical outcomes you produced together. *does not celebrate out loud* *celebrates enormously on the inside* Collaborative care working exactly as it should. Organic referral growth from good clinical work within a proper collaborative framework — it's one of the most consistent things ONIN members report. Not because ONIN markets them. Because good outcomes speak. → Link in bio.

The clinical work is only half of delegation. The documentation is the other half — and it is the part that protects you. When CoNO reviews a delegated act, they are looking at:
→ Evidence that a proper delegation agreement exists
→ That you have the training the delegating provider required
→ That informed consent was obtained and documented
→ That your clinical notes reflect the delegated act, rationale, and outcome
→ That communication back to the delegating provider is on file.
None of this is onerous when you have the right systems in place. ONIN members have access to SOPs, consent templates, and referral communication frameworks designed specifically for delegated IV therapies and collaborative care.Documentation is not a burden. It is what lets you keep doing the work.

A referral letter that actually gets read. A follow-up that closes the loop. A co-management note that tells the receiving provider exactly what they need to know. Good referral communication is a clinical skill. It is also one of the things that protects you professionally.

ONIN's August CE series covers effective referral and co-management communication in detail, including templates and real case examples.→ Link in bio.

Referral, co-management, and delegation. Three terms that come up constantly in collaborative naturopathic practice — and three terms that are not interchangeable. Knowing the difference matters clinically, professionally, and for your documentation. Swipe for a breakdown. →

Delegation in naturopathic practice is one of the most misunderstood concepts in the profession — and one of the most clinically important. Here is what it is: Delegation allows an authorized provider (like a nurse practitioner) to authorize an ND to perform a controlled act — such as IV administration — that would otherwise be outside the ND's independent authority. Here is what it is not:→ It is not the ND acting outside their scope→ It is not a workaround→ It is not the same as a referral→ It is not informal or undocumentedWhen done properly — with the right SOPs, documentation, training, and collaborative framework — delegation is one of the most important tools available to Ontario NDs. ONIN's August CE series covers delegation, referral, and co-management in depth — the regulatory distinctions, documentation requirements, and communication processes that make collaborative care work properly. → Link in bio for more on ONIN membership and education.
