π₯ Ontario Wildfires: The Danger Goes Beyond the Flames
Ontario is currently experiencing significant wildfires, particularly in the northern and northwestern regions. While firefighters continue working tirelessly to contain the fires, smoke has spread far beyond the affected areas, impacting air quality in many southern Ontario communities, including Toronto, Kitchener, Waterloo, London, and Hamilton.
Protect yourself and your family by following these recommendations when air quality is poor:
π Limit outdoor exercise and strenuous activities.
π Keep windows and doors closed as much as possible.
π¨ Use an air purifier if available.
π· Wear a well-fitted N95 respirator if you must spend extended time outdoors.
πΆ Take extra precautions for children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with asthma, heart disease, or chronic lung conditions, as they are more vulnerable to wildfire smoke.
Common symptoms of smoke exposure include eye irritation, coughing, sore throat, headaches, and shortness of breath. If symptoms become severe or you experience chest pain or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.
Stay informed by checking local air quality alerts and following official public health guidance.
Stay safe, and thank you to all firefighters and emergency responders for their dedication and courage. β€οΈ
