The neighbours on a street in Minneapolis want to close off their street to foster better neighbour connections. Cordage Green already does this with no street running through the clusters. Instead we have a common courtyard and gardens.

Some residents of the south Minneapolis neighborhood hope to recreate 45th Avenue as a community front yard.

We have added another four feet to the length of the bungalow. This really helped, so much so that we now have a storage room and space for a powder room. It also helped make the entrance to the main bathroom more private.

And no increase in price for the first bungalow to be sold!

We have maintained the universal design characteristics for accessibility and confirmed that if needed a ramp can be easily added if needed.

Well designed 2 bedroom bungalow that can be converted to wheel chair accessibility.

“The porch promotes grace and comfort. It promotes good conversation simply by virtue of the fact that on a porch there is no need for it.” Garrison Keillor
When was the last time you enjoyed a truly great front porch? We are making sure you can again. It is not just a deck on the front of the house. There is a science to a good porch. It must give you a measure of privacy and yet give the opportunity to talk comfortably with someone on the sidewalk. It cannot be too low or too high. It must be deep enough to allow good furniture arrangement for an impromptu gathering of friends and neighbours.

A reminder that we are planning to build a natural playground. With so much "screen time", opportunities for reconnecting with nature are limited. Kids can garden with their parents, but need independent and unstructured play. We are creating a safe place for the entire neighbourhood where the imagination can expand and kids can go home maybe a little less than clean, tired, and more fully human.

Our project inspiration comes from the pocket neighbourhood concept of site planning. The basic premise is humans are more important than cars. Instead of being confronted with cars out your front door you have a real 8' deep porch and the opportunity of enjoying a cup of coffee with a neighbour. The last picture captures the difference. http://www.cordagegreen.ca/pocket-neighbourhood.html

Spent the day updating the web page, adding new copy, graphics, and a revised price list - still unit 2A under $200,000. Spring is bringing out lots of interest. Great to see that a commitment to affordability and good design gets noticed. www.cordagegreen.ca

We had the public meeting tonight at Welland City Council. We think it was well received by council. Some neighbours had the usual concern about parking, traffic, and density, but nothing that really touched the planning issues essential to the project. We are pleased!

Council will get a report from staff in a couple of weeks and we expect the zoning by-law to be passed. Bob Bond and Dick Halverson presented (the powerpoint presentation was a bust due to technical difficulties with City equipment - maybe a new budget item?).
All in all a good night and a significant milestone for the project!
