💡Why a New CT Scanner Matters, heard from someone on the front lines - Dr. Fern von der Porten, Medical Director, Whistler Health Care Centre:

“This is an important, powerful tool that we use every day to save lives, diagnose critical ailments, and manage disease in our community.”

Diagnostic imaging technology has advanced significantly since Whistler’s current CT scanner was installed. Today’s systems offer new capabilities that improve precision, accelerate diagnosis, and expand the scope of care that can be delivered locally—reducing the need for patient transfers.

CT scanners are essential for diagnosing:

Concussions and traumatic injuries
Internal bleeding
Spinal injuries and complex fractures
Cardiac and lung emergencies

From serious sports injuries to life‑threatening emergencies, Whistler Health Care Centre relies on its CT scanner every single day. Seen in this photo is the current scanner with CT Supervisor, Marissa.

After more than a decade of service, our current scanner needs replacing. A new next‑generation CT scanner will bring faster diagnostics, clearer imaging, and stronger emergency care—right here at home.

🩻 Bringing next‑generation imaging to Whistler.

Every year, over 7,500 CT scans help diagnose injuries and save lives at Whistler Health Care Centre. Our current CT scanner—installed after the 2010 Olympics—has reached the end of its life.

A new state‑of‑the‑art CT scanner will mean:

✅ Faster scans ✅ Sharper images ✅ Better emergency, trauma & cardiac care ✅ More care delivered locally

The Whistler Health Care Foundation is proud to support this $5M replacement project, with a goal to raise $2M for next‑generation imaging.

will be hosting a Community Concussion Support Talk on March 26 from 6:00–8:00 PM at the Maury Young Arts Centre.

This is a free community event bringing together local experts to discuss various aspects of concussion recovery. WCSS are pleased to welcome some of their regular guest speakers:

* Dr. Andreas Stridsland, Chiropractor — The science of concussion and systems affected
* Jana Kapp, Physiotherapist — Best practices for recovery and lived experience
* Cait Leavitt, Counsellor — Nervous system regulation and mental health in recovery

The evening will be hosted by Tom Scrimshaw, Outreach Worker for WCSS, and Makenzi McLeod. This talk is open to community members managing recovery, athletes, practitioners, caregivers, anyone supporting someone through concussion recovery, and anyone interested in learning more about concussion.
