I frequently use this song at the end of music therapy sessions to help bring clients into the present moment and reflect. It’s a good transition to wrap up the session and think about something they’re looking forward to and give them space to share.

Sharing can be powerful for those who are both verbal and non-verbal. It may look like:

💭 Telling a story about something coming up in their life
💭 A one word response that the MT can extrapolate on and make meaningful, and then check back on it next session
💭 Using an SGD to communicate something personal
💭 Pointing to something in the room that the MT can make meaningful
💭 Prompt a support person to share plans for the day or week ahead

🎵 I have sung this one slow, quick, long with multiple opportunities to share or fast and fun!
It always depends on where the client is at.

Hello again! 👋🏼

I’ve been in summer/parenting mode and took a long lovely break from social media!

Popping back on to check in and wish everyone a smooth transition back to school, routines, new activities, and wellness ❤️

On a personal note, my daughter started kindergarten, my son at a new daycare centre, and we just moved back home after a 6-month renovation. So this fall brings some extra change and transition for us!

Looking forward to creating new potential work for Mindful Music Therapy and making connections to build something wonderful ✨🎵✨

I am honoured to be part of Annual Mental Wellness Summit! They are such a great program providing exactly the type of support that our school curriculum needs right now and in the future. Check them out!

Happy National Child & Youth Mental Health Day 💚

Stay tuned for clips from the summit. Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

This is Aspen, who participates in weekly, 45-minute music therapy sessions. She began with a consult, trial virtual session, and assessment to develop her goals.

Aspen is now enjoying the scheduled opportunity to participate in song writing, music listening, and motivation for movement where sessions are planned to suit her specific needs and preferences to support her self-expression and mental health.

Aspen is thrilled with her first original song, “In My Dreams,” where she went through a process of 5-senses reflection about her vision of positive thoughts and her favourite things. Putting this into a song with the guidance of an MTA has proven to be a very positive and fulfilling experience for her and she is already working through her second song both in and out of music therapy sessions!

Congratulations, Aspen on taking charge of your mental health through music expression!

“A spring wind blew my list of things to do away” = my favourite line in that song, cause’ wouldn’t that be the best?!

Feels like spring is back today Winnipeg! ☀️

I started my work day by immediately sitting and singing this song and it focused my attention ✅, stimulated the release of oxytocin ✅, and instilled gratitude while singing the lyrics I connected with ✅.

This is one of my favourite spring songs to sing. “Spring Wind” by Greg Brown. Check out my stories to see some other ideas to get your spring song list started!

✨Happy Monday ✨

These lyrics are from one of my current tunes for breathing and grounding. I use it at the beginning of my sessions ... a simple tune that can be used and adapted for anyone of any ability, and used anywhere.

The beauty of having a music therapist guide it 👉 they can meet the client where they are at by reading body language cues, and create the tempo and musical qualities that can support the clients’ specific needs in the moment.

Here is a mindful Monday reminder to take a few moments to breathe today. 🧘 You can even use any song you find soothing and breathe with the beat as your guide using the above lyrics! Or, contact me for my tune ☺️

I’ve been away for a bit moving my family out of our home and today is of our renovation! 🤩 BUT... it’s also so I had to pop on to post and celebrate that, too!!!

I’m grateful to get to work with amazing folks doing what I do as a music therapist and want to send love to all of the MT supporters out there! ❤️
