Since returning from Miss Ma'am's Make-a-Wish trip, we're full force back into appointments, therapies, and routines. One of the appointments requires her to wear a nasal cannula for an extended period of time; so here we are, desensitizing to ensure the best success.

Operation WOW is still in effect. We're planning more fun-filled, memory-making events to come. We just need to balance keeping up with her INAD decline and ensuring her physical and medical needs are being taken care of.

Please remember our Willow. The resilient, rambunctious little girl 🤍

It's been rough returning to life after Miss Ma'am's Make-a-Wish trip. We were able to "forget" reality for that time and just enjoy. Being able to be taken out of the shadow that is her INAD diagnosis was wonderful.

But the reality is that here we are, back to life where we're watching our daughter decline every damn day. I'm sorry folks, as much as we want to be able to share positive messages, the post-wish crash has hit hard. We're back to watching her struggle in her own body, within her own home, doing her own routines. We're back to appointment filled weeks, tracking how her condition is progressing and what can be done to prolong the skills and abilities she has. It's sad, stressful, and grossly unfair.

Please remember our daughter. This precious soul who's so much more than her diagnosis. This is Willow Walters. Wondrous Willow.

Day 7: Travel day. Today was an easy day. We woke up early to bathe everyone from the previous days happenings, since we didn't do that before bed because of how late it was. We had one last meal at Give Kids the World Village, one last ice cream at the shop, and went to the arcade to burn some time out of the heat. Around noon is when we left for the airport, and we ended up waiting in line to be checked in with another Canadian family.

Unfortunately we didn't get another direct flight home, which added 2.5hrs of travel time. We landed at 1:40AM, and had kids in their own beds by 2:30AM. Despite being exhausted, they both travelled so well - and the crew on our last WestJet flight surprised us by giving Miss Ma'am a gift.

It was such a wonderful trip. More pictures and updates to follow.

Day 6: Magic Kingdom. This day was tied for the best with Day 2 at Universal Studios. The family ate every meal on the go this day, taking advantage of the Wish Lounge Magic Kingdom has for Make a Wish families to have a quiet lunch. We went on many rides, saw many shows, and met many characters. Miss Ma'am was definitely feeding off our energy, as she was full of happy squeals and laughter for just about the entire day. She got to meet some of her favourites, and some she didn't know but was more than happy to hug and be excited for nonetheless. We ended the day with a magical parade they have at the end of every night. Despite how exciting this was, our little girl could barely keep her eyes open, as we had been on the go the whole day. She still enjoyed it to her capacity, but boy was she tired.

We rolled into Give Kids the World Village super late (10:45 🤯), and immediately put kids to bed to begin packing our bags in preparation for departure the next day. It was such a great day, and seeing our girl so happy was so uplifting to our hearts.

Please remember our little Willow. The little girl who won't nap, even if she needs it 🥴

Day 5: Legoland. While this park was geared more towards Miss Ma'am's big brothers interests, she still had a great time. This park was dead comparatively to Universal and Disney - and we took full advantage of that by going on some rides multiple times. In fact, this park is where she got to go on her first solo ride. On the way out, we made sure to stop and have a LEGO charicature portrait done of the family, and it's the best!

Please remember our little Willow. The cutest LEGO figure.

Day 4: EPCOT & Hollywood Studios. This day was challenging. EPCOT definitely wasn't a good match for our family - which was a shame, being that we spent most of the day there. However, Hollywood Studios was wonderful and it was a great way to end the day. Miss Ma'am got to meet many beloved characters from some of her favourite films this day, saw a couple shows, went on a couple rides, and we ended up returning to Give Kids the World Village so late that we put kids right to bed after a quick dinner.

Please remember our little Willow.

Day 3: Village day. This day we decided to stay at Give Kids the World Village all day, as we were still pretty wiped out from the previous days activities. It ended up being exactly what we needed, and it ended up being so much fun! We explored, went on rides, had ice cream multiple times at the ice cream shop, and Miss Ma'am got to do her star ceremony - a bright little gold star with her name on it that will go up inside the castle to join the thousands of stars of previous children who've stayed at the village.

It was the perfect day all in all, and while we were a little crispy from the 32° sun, the more laid back day was exactly what we needed.

Please remember our little Willow. The girl who refuses to nap, even when exhausted 🥴

Day 2: Universal Studios. Here is where we discovered Miss Ma'am is a little thrill-seeker.

We prioritized Miss Ma'am getting the "Gabby's Dollhouse Experience" by doing Universal on our first full day in Florida. She was of course delighted by that. We had personalized t-shirts made up before leaving, and that made it easy to identify each other amongst the crowds. We met various characters, saw a couple shows, and went on many rides (which had Willow squealing in excitement). It was a wonderful first wish day, but boy it really wiped us all out.

Please remember Willow. The little girl who absolutely loves rollercoasters 🎢

Day 1: Travel day. Thanks to Willow's medical team and the people over at Make a Wish, everyone was able to expedite the process so Willow could have a wish granted while she's still fairly mobile, cognizant, and able to enjoy it. Navigating the YEG airport at 6:30AM while being emotionally aware of why we were there to begin with was a challenge, but Miss Ma'am was happy as could be. The temperature difference between Edmonton (1° at departure at 9AM) and Orlando (30° on arrival at 5:30PM) was shocking. We were helped by a volunteer from Give Kids the World resort who was holding a sign that said "Welcome Home Willow'" and guided us to and helped us grab our baggage and brought us right up to our rental van. We ate dinner, had ice cream from the shop in the village, got kids to bed, and got ready for the fun to begin the next day.

Please remember our Willow. The Make a Wish kid with the best hair.

Last weekend, Miss Ma'am got to attend a Disney Princess High Tea event with her Auntie and her cousin, thanks to our family friend Jan Gillett. It was such a lovely time, and once again Enchanted Princess Parties - Edmonton & Area went above and beyond for us. They ensured that each princess greeted Willow, danced with her, and took pictures with her. We were able to arrive a little early so she could settle, and that's when they gifted her a rainbow kitty stuffy that she got to take home. There were a couple princesses who remembered her from the photoshoot from last month, and some who weren't there but spent extra time with Willow when she came around and really made it all the more memorable by treating her so well.

Thank you so much to everyone that helped make this special day happen. We wish there were more words to articulate just how grateful we are to be able to make these kinds of precious memories with our little girl while she's still able. So from the depths of our hearts, thank you.

Please remember Willow - the little girl who loves Disney Princesses 👑
