Managing Mad Mast Cells

Managing Mad Mast Cells Managing Mad Mast Cells is a medically reviewed, evidence-based guide to Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).

Combining lived experience with scientific insight, it provides deeper understanding and practical tips for navigating daily life. I live with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP), Hereditary Alpha Tryptasemia (HaT), systemic nickel allergy, and various food intolerances. Since only a few truly helpful books on MCAS exist, I

finally brought everything I had learned over the years together in this book, so others can have an easier time getting their health back on track.

June is International Mast Cell Disease Awareness Month, so I’m sharing Mast Cell Action’s programme for the month.

💜 Awareness facilitates change. 💜

The more people understand mast cell diseases, the easier it becomes to improve recognition, diagnosis, support, and research for those affected.

⭐️ The New York Post just shared an article on MCAS. ⭐️

It’s so encouraging to see awareness of this condition growing and reaching more people.

Every conversation, every story, and every article helps more people feel seen, understood, and supported.

Thank you all for sharing your stories. 💖

The condition is elusive and shifts without warning. Patients eat normally one day, then go into anaphylaxis the next. Reactions can be triggered by stress, environment or even sunlight.

For many people with MCAS, fragrances are not simply unpleasant — they can trigger symptoms in the body that are very real, painful, and sometimes severe.

They can range from headaches and neurological symptoms to breathing difficulties, skin reactions, diarrhea, and a racing heart — and in some cases even life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Even the tiniest bit of exposure can sometimes affect a patient for days or even weeks, since any trigger can potentially unleash an entire cascade of reactions afterward.

Unfortunately, many people simply do not realize the extreme impact these substances can have on MCAS patients. So, here’s a chart that hopefully helps visualize it.

Awareness matters. 💜

Today, Managing Mad Mast Cells is featured on Reedsy Discovery.

Though many readers on this platform may still be unfamiliar with MCAS, advocacy and raising awareness of this condition are very important to me.

MCAS may affect far more people than is currently recognized, yet so few people have heard about it.

My hope is that this book helps MCAS become better recognized, understood, and ultimately helps those living with it.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support of my work. 💙😊🙏

Synopsis: What if your body reacted to everything — food, stress, temperature, even your own thoughts — and no one could explain why? Flushing, itching, hives, GI distress, brain fog, fatigue, a racing heart — these symptoms are often dismissed or treated separately. But fo...

"Managing Mad Mast Cells: A Practical Guide to Living with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)" is a comprehensive guide for those dealing with MCAS.

It offers a candid account of my personal story, explanations of the medical aspects, psychological coping strategies, practical solutions for daily management, and insights into nutrition with a focus on restricted diets.

By offering relatable content and practical solutions, the book aims to be a valuable resource for those affected, as well as their loved ones, caregivers, and friends. It is crafted to help everyone better understand and manage the condition.

I’ve included every helpful insight I’ve gained since my MCAD diagnosis in 2017. Medically reviewed and supported by over 200 scientific references, it is designed as a practical "how-to guide" for navigating your personal journey with MCAS.

While MCAS is a complex and multifaceted condition, and my insights may not address every single personal challenge you might face, I believe this book provides a thorough overview and a solid starting point for making your own discoveries.
