DAY 8 | NO RISK FACTOR? YOU CAN STILL DEVELOP PREECLAMPSIA.

Maybe you are young.
Maybe this is not your first pregnancy.
Maybe you have no history of high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease or preeclampsia.

You can still develop preeclampsia.

Risk factors can increase your chances, but they do not tell us exactly who will develop it.

That is why we say:

Every pregnancy deserves watchfulness.
Every mother deserves proper ANC.

Don’t wait until you are considered “high risk” before you take preeclampsia seriously.

Know the signs. Stay watchful. Speak up.

DAY 7 | WHAT EVERY MOTHER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT PREECLAMPSIA

Who is at risk?

Some factors can increase a woman’s risk, including:

• Previous preeclampsia
• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Kidney disease
• Twins or multiple pregnancy
• Family history
• Certain autoimmune conditions

But here’s the important part:

Having a risk factor doesn’t mean you will develop preeclampsia. And having none doesn’t mean you are immune.

So know your risk. Know the symptoms. Stay watchful.

DAY 6 | WHAT EVERY MOTHER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT PREECLAMPSIA

One of the most dangerous things about preeclampsia?

It can be silent.

A woman may look fine, feel fine and still have a serious problem developing.

That is why ANC matters even when you feel perfectly well.

Don’t wait until you feel sick.
Keep your appointments. Get checked. Speak up.

Feeling fine is not proof that everything is fine.

DAY 5 | WHAT EVERY MOTHER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT PREECLAMPSIA

The baby is born. Is the danger over?

Not always.

Preeclampsia can develop after delivery.

A woman can remain at risk for up to 6 weeks postpartum.

So please don’t dismiss severe headaches, vision changes, shortness of breath, severe abdominal/upper abdominal pain, or other concerning symptoms after childbirth.

Postpartum is still part of the story.

Watch. Speak up. Seek care.

DAY 4 | WHAT EVERY MOTHER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT PREECLAMPSIA

When can preeclampsia start?

Preeclampsia usually develops after 20 weeks of pregnancy — during the second half of pregnancy.

That is why ANC is not a one-time visit.

Keep your appointments.
Monitor your blood pressure as recommended.
And if a worrying symptom appears between visits, don’t wait for your next ANC.

Seek medical care.

Tomorrow, we talk about something many mothers don’t know: preeclampsia can happen AFTER delivery.

DAY 3 | WHAT EVERY MOTHER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT PREECLAMPSIA

Not every high blood pressure problem in pregnancy is preeclampsia.

There are different hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, including:

• Chronic hypertension
• Gestational hypertension
• Preeclampsia
• Preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension
• Eclampsia

Why does this matter?

Because they do not all mean the same thing, carry the same risks, or require the same management.

So please stop comparing pregnancies:

“She had high BP too and she was fine.”

“She had swollen feet too.”

“She had headaches too.”

Your pregnancy is your own.

If something feels wrong or your blood pressure is abnormal, don’t diagnose yourself from another woman’s experience.

Get assessed by a qualified healthcare professional.

DAY 2 | WHAT EVERY MOTHER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT PREECLAMPSIA

Eclampsia Comes like ⚡

It is when a woman with a hypertensive pregnancy disorder develops seizures (convulsions).

And here is what many people don’t know:

There is no fixed countdown.

Preeclampsia can progress to eclampsia over days, hours, or sometimes very suddenly.

That is why we must not wait for a woman to convulse before we take preeclampsia seriously.

Eclampsia is an emergency.

If a pregnant or recently delivered woman convulses:
➡️ Get emergency medical help immediately.
➡️ Do NOT put anything in her mouth.
➡️ Do NOT force her to drink.
➡️ Do NOT restrain her.

The goal is to stop the storm before the lightning comes.

Early recognition. Early medical care. Lives saved.

TOMORROW, WE BEGIN. ❤️

Starting tomorrow, I’m beginning a new educational series titled:

“WHAT EVERY MOTHER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT PREECLAMPSIA.”

This will be a continuous series where, step by step, we will talk about preeclampsia, eclampsia and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.

Not just the name.

We’ll talk about the risk factors, warning signs, when it can happen, how it is detected, what it can do to the mother and baby, what happens after delivery, and what every woman, family and community should know.

I want this series to reach as many people as possible because knowing the word preeclampsia is not enough.

You need to know what to watch for.

Follow the series.
Learn something new.
Share every post.
Tag or invite someone who needs this information.

Let’s make sure more mothers know what they need to know before it is too late.

Day 1 starts tomorrow. ❤️

Two families arrive at the hospital on the same day.

Both are excited.

Both are praying.

Both are waiting to welcome a new life.

Hours later…

One family celebrates.

The other is left in tears.

Sometimes it is a mother who is lost.
Sometimes it is the baby.
Sometimes, heartbreakingly, it is both.

No family prepares for that phone call.
No child should grow up without a mother because of a preventable pregnancy complication.

That is why MamaWatch is building communities that are safe for mothers.

We are educating families, correcting harmful myths, encouraging antenatal care, and helping communities recognize danger signs early.

Because no family should carry this burden alone.

There are two kinds of mothers who leave the maternity ward.

One leaves with a baby in her arms.

The other leaves with a broken heart.

Both carried a pregnancy.
Both gave birth.
Both dreamed of taking their babies home.

But only one gets to.

Every year, more than 500,000 babies are stillborn around the world. Behind each number is a mother carrying a pain that words cannot fully describe. Many of these losses are linked to pregnancy complications that could have been detected and managed earlier, including preeclampsia.

At MamaWatch, our vision is simple:

Every mother should go home with her baby.

That is why we educate communities, empower mothers, and promote early recognition of danger signs. Because protecting mothers also means protecting the futures they carry.

No family should have to leave a maternity ward with empty arms.

Protecting Mothers. Saving Futures. 💙
