BEYOND THE HYPE

Iboga has attracted extraordinary attention around the world.

Powerful personal stories.
Ancient traditions.
Scientific interest.
Bold claims about healing and transformation.

But with extraordinary claims comes a responsibility to ask:

What do we actually know?

At IBOGA — Beyond the Hype, we want to explore this remarkable plant without turning curiosity into exaggeration.

🌿 RESPECT THE PLANT

Iboga has a history that began long before today’s international interest. Understanding it means acknowledging its African origins and the traditions and communities connected with it.

🧪 RESPECT THE EVIDENCE

Personal experiences can be profound, but testimony and scientific evidence aren’t the same thing.

We’ll explore what research suggests, what it doesn’t establish, and where important questions remain unanswered.

❤️ RESPECT SAFETY

Iboga and ibogaine are powerful psychoactive substances and are not risk-free.

Responsible education means discussing potential benefits and risks—not hiding one side of the conversation.

🌍 RESPECT THE PEOPLE

As global interest grows, sustainability, ethical sourcing and respect for traditional knowledge must remain part of the conversation.

🧠 AND RESPECT THE UNKNOWN

Perhaps most importantly, we don’t need to pretend we have every answer.

There is still much to understand about Iboga, ibogaine and their effects.

Our philosophy is simple:

KNOWLEDGE • RESPECT • INTEGRITY • SUSTAINABILITY

Because…

Insight can happen in a moment.
Transformation is what you do with it.

🌿 IBOGA ≠ IBOGAINE

The difference matters.

The words Iboga and ibogaine are often used as though they mean the same thing.

They don’t.

🌿 IBOGA

Iboga usually refers to Tabernanthe iboga — a plant native to West-Central Africa and deeply associated with cultural and spiritual traditions in the region, particularly Gabon.

The plant contains multiple naturally occurring alkaloids.

Ibogaine is just one of them.

🧪 IBOGAINE

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive alkaloid found in Iboga and some related plants.

It is the particular molecule that has attracted considerable international scientific interest, including research into its potential effects in people with substance-use disorders.

But here’s the important distinction:

Studying one molecule isn’t the same as studying the whole plant.

🌿 Iboga = the plant and its complex chemistry.

🧪 Ibogaine = one particular alkaloid within that chemistry.

And their contexts are different too.

Iboga has a long African cultural history.

Ibogaine has increasingly become the subject of modern pharmacological and clinical research.

Understanding that distinction helps us have a more accurate conversation about tradition, science, effects and safety.

The plant is a whole story.
The molecule is part of that story.

🌿 MEET IBOGA

Before the laboratories, documentaries, retreats, and worldwide interest, there was the plant.

Tabernanthe iboga is a perennial shrub native to the tropical forests of West-Central Africa, particularly associated with Gabon and neighbouring regions.

Its roots contain a complex mixture of naturally occurring alkaloids, including ibogaine — a compound that has attracted significant international scientific interest.

But Iboga is more than its chemistry.

🌿 THE PLANT
A remarkable African botanical species with distinctive leaves, flowers, and orange-yellow fruit.

🌍 THE PEOPLE
Iboga has longstanding cultural and spiritual significance in Central Africa and is particularly associated with several Bwiti traditions.

🧪 THE SCIENCE
Ibogaine and other Iboga alkaloids continue to attract scientific attention, including research into substance-use disorders. The evidence is still developing, and Ibogaine should not be presented as a proven cure.

🌱 THE FUTURE
Growing international interest raises important questions about sustainability, cultivation, conservation, ethical sourcing, and respect for traditional knowledge.

Over the next 30 days, we’re going beyond the headlines to explore:

Iboga • Ibogaine • Science • History • Culture • Safety • Sustainability • Transformation

No miracle claims.
No unnecessary mythology.

Just curiosity, respect, and a willingness to distinguish what we know from what we still have to learn.

Respect the plant.
Respect the people.
Respect the evidence.
Respect the unknown.

Is boga a complex computational psychotechnolgy
with therapeutic and spiritual implications?

Iboga acts as a highly complex tool that appears to help the brain and mind process deeply embedded memories, emotions, habits, and beliefs, potentially supporting psychological healing while also giving rise to profound subjective experiences that many people interpret as spiritual.

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive alkaloid derived from the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub, traditionally used in Bwiti spiritual practices in Central Africa. It has attracted scientific interest because a single medically supervised dose may reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings in some people with substance use disorders, although it is not approved as a treatment in many countries and evidence from large clinical trials is still limited. Ibogaine also produces a prolonged, introspective psychedelic experience and carries significant risks -

It should only be undertaken after appropriate medical assessment, with qualified supervision, and in accordance with recognised safety protocols.
