As part of implementing the Building Resilient Immunisation Delivery through Grassroots Engagement Project (BRIDGE) in 32 Health Districts in Adamawa, Far North, North, North West, and South West regions, the CBCHS Immunisation Program is conducting a two-day orientation workshop in Soa on August 20-21, 2026.

Participants include technical teams, frontline actors, including CSO representatives.

The session aims to present the BRIDGE Project workplan implementation approach and describe the technical rollout approach, including each actor's roles and responsibilities.

Opening the session, the CBCHS Immunisation Program Manager, Dr Eugène Foyeth, underlined the key role CSOs will play in achieving the project goals and called on colleagues to focus on quality work and effectiveness.

Through the BRIDGE Project, CBCHS aims to optimise community involvement in routine and catch-up immunisation in fragile and underserved settings in Cameroon, in collaboration with the EPI, MannionDaniels, Gavi, and Gavi Alliance partners.

“My first child missed vaccines. I didn’t know, and no one reached us. This time, the CBCHS immunisation team came to our community. They mapped our homes, followed up, and reminded us. My second child is now fully vaccinated.”

Fear, restricted movement, and mistrust once slowed vaccination efforts in Ako. When local leaders became part of the solution, everything changed. Working with CBCHS, community leaders helped identify children who had never been reached. Together, they built trust and extended services to those left behind. Today, those children are vaccinated.

CBCHS Immunisation Program Advances Equity in Vaccination

The CBCHS Immunisation Program, in partnership with the Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI) and Risewell, has adopted a new framework to strengthen vaccination activities across Cameroon to ensure that they are more equitable and inclusive.

From June 16–20, 2026, stakeholders convened at the Welcome Garden Hotel in Soa for a five-day meeting. Participants included regional EPI coordinators, civil society organizations, CBCHS representatives, Risewell members, MannionDaniel country coordinator and a delegation from the central level of EPI, representing all ten regions of the country.

The meeting reviewed findings from an eight-month gender study, which identified barriers to vaccination linked to decision-making and vaccinator engagement. These insights informed the development of a national mitigation strategy designed to address gender and inclusion challenges.

This strategic document will guide the National immunisation program in adopting responsive approaches that ensure every individual can access vaccines, regardless of the barriers they face.

In many communities, vaccination was seen as a mother’s responsibility. Our team engaged fathers and created safe spaces for men to ask questions, understand the risks, and see their role clearly. One father explained: “I realised this is not just women’s work. I took my child myself.” Now, more fathers are stepping in.

I used to refuse vaccines because of too many rumours and unanswered questions. The CBCHS team kept coming back. They met us in the market, in church and even at my home. They answered every doubt without judging us; hence, I decided to try. Today, my child is fully vaccinated.

It is the wish of every parent to see their children strong, healthy, and able to play freely with their friends and watch them grow without interruption. Vaccines make that possible by preventing diseases through timely vaccination.
