Yesterday, I stepped into a new chapter.
After more than three months of counting down to this moment, I had the honour of being accepted into the Shaolin lineage and becoming a Shaolin warrior monk disciple.
For me, this isn’t simply a title, it’s a commitment to a path I’ve felt deeply connected to for many years.
Ten years ago, I began studying Buddhism, around eight years ago, I finally started training in Shaolin Kung Fu after years of exploring and competing in martial arts from MMA to K-1 and even bodybuilding, then embarking on my healing journey which included Vipassana, fasting, different approaches to nutrition and healing, meditation, mindfulness and the continuous pursuit of developing the mind, body and spirit.
Looking back, so much of it was quietly leading me here.
Chan Wu Yi. 禪武醫.
Mind. Martial arts. Medicine.
A philosophy of cultivation that brings so many of the lessons I’ve explored throughout my life into one path.
To now take that commitment deeper is an honour I don’t take lightly.
I understand that this isn’t about becoming something greater than others. It’s about becoming more accountable to myself, to how I live, how I lead, how I raise my family, how I treat others, how I continue to heal and how I carry the lineage forward.
It’s also deeply personal as In many ways, I feel I’m continuing something my father began around 40 years ago and now I’m carrying that mission forward through my own life and family.
To my children, my partner, my teachers, my brothers and sisters on this journey, and everyone who has supported, challenged, inspired and believed in me along the way thank you.
You have all contributed to the person standing here today. This isn’t the completion of a journey. It’s the beginning of a deeper one.
With humility, devotion, discipline, courage, honour and a deep rooted intention to remain authentic and humble. Here’s to the next chapter. 🙏🏽
