Surgical Mastery on Display
WEYO Surgical’s wMerak 4K System Powers Complex ENT Livestream at Zhejiang University’s First Affiliated Hospital
The “One Scope, Zhejiang Excellence” ENT and head‑and‑neck surgery livestream series recently concluded across three campuses of the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine – Yuhang, Zhijiang, and Chengzhan. The event broadcast over a dozen highly challenging procedures live, including pansinusectomy, skull-base tumor resection, and choanal atresia repair.
Throughout the academic livestream, the WEYO Surgical wMerak 4K Ultra-HD Medical Endoscope System provided unwavering support. In ENT and head-and-neck surgeries –-where anatomy is intricate and movements must be precise – the system delivered crisp, color-accurate, and stable imaging that stood up to the demands of real-world clinical practice. Its performance earned recognition from leading regional specialists and key opinion leaders alike.
ENT and head-and-neck surgery has long been the ultimate proving ground for endoscopic technology. The anatomy is complex, the working space extremely confined, and a deviation of even one millimeter can compromise outcomes. Compared with routine cases, these high-acuity procedures place extreme demands on image clarity, color fidelity, dynamic stability, and depth of field-making them the true benchmark for any high-end endoscope system.
Throughout the livestream, the wMerak system accompanied provincial experts through over a dozen complex procedures, consistently delivering stable, high‑quality imaging that exceeded expectations.
At the Yuhang campus, Professor Cheng performed multiple procedures using the wMerak 4K system-including pansinusectomy, endoscopic choanal atresia repair, and skull-base tumor resection. His verdict was concise and emphatic: “This is far superior to the 4K equipment we currently use in our department.”
Professor Cheng added: “For nasal skull-base surgery, I personally value high brightness and high-fidelity color. With HDR (High Dynamic Range) enabled, the entire field is bright and razor-sharp. Blood appears in true, natural tones, and tissue edges are clearly defined, which makes dissection and separation more precise. The surgical field remained clean and well-controlled throughout, which is critical for optimal postoperative drainage.”
Meanwhile, at the Zhijiang campus, Professor Chen performed a six-hour extended endoscopic resection of a nasal‑palatal squamous cell carcinoma, followed by submental flap harvest and palatal reconstruction. Operating continuously with the wMerak, he was visibly impressed and gave the system repeated praise during the broadcast.
Professor Chen noted: “The clarity is excellent-we could clearly visualise the sphenoid sinus mucosa and the posterior edge of the middle turbinate basal lamella, which facilitated smooth resection. Depth of field is also commendable; the frontal sinus drainage opening at the posterior nasal cavity was distinctly visible. Color reproduction is highly accurate-blood and tissue look natural, with no over-exposure or loss of shadow detail, even during bleeding from irregular ethmoid air cells. The image remained consistently smooth, stable, and evenly bright. Unlike our current departmental system, we didn’t need to frequently adjust HDR parameters, which greatly improved the intraoperative visual experience and the livestream image quality.”
Beyond core imaging, the system’s thoughtful design features also won praise. Professor Chen specifically highlighted: “The built-in high-capacity hard drive stores extensive surgical video data without requiring external recorders. Retrieving and archiving footage is convenient, efficient, and highly practical—a clear advantage over our existing 4K equipment.”
On the final day, at the Chengzhan campus, Professor Shen performed a pansinusectomy and shared his assessment: “It exceeds standard 4K specifications. What really matters clinically is the ability to differentiate tissue structures, and this system performs excellently in that regard.”
Professor Shen elaborated: “Colours are true-to-life with no colour cast. Even in bleeding scenarios, the image remains clear, allowing rapid localisation and timely ligation of the anterior ethmoidal artery to prevent persistent haemorrhage. Tissue planes are sharply defined. Depth of field and brightness are both outstanding – the livestream demonstration was truly impressive.”
The “One Scope, Zhejiang Excellence” ENT and head-and-neck surgery livestream was not only a high-calibre academic exchange but also a compelling real-world validation of the WEYO Surgical wMerak 4K Ultra-HD Medical Endoscope System. In the demanding field of minimally invasive ENT surgery, the system has proven its value through superior image clarity, authentic colour reproduction, enduring stability, and user-centric details – earning confidence from top clinicians and setting a new benchmark for the OR.
Looking ahead, WEYO Surgical remains dedicated to advancing minimally invasive imaging technology, with the goal of making every procedure more precise, safer, and ultimately better for patients.
