The soup the world’s longest-lived family ate every day 🇮🇹
In the mountain village of Perdasdefogu, Sardinia, the Melis family holds the Guinness World Record as the oldest family in history: nine siblings with a combined age of 851 years, the eldest living to 109.
Their lunch almost never changed. Sourdough bread, a small glass of Cannonau w**e, and a big bowl of three-bean minestrone.
Minestrone is simply a soup of garden vegetables, beans, and grain. Together they make a complete, protein-rich one-bowl meal, and the mix of fibers feeds a healthy gut.
But it was never only the food. Clean mountain air, constant natural movement, deep family bonds, and a strong sense of community carried them, too. As a cousin of the family put it: “if you talk, you live well.”
Swipe for Dan’s version of the Melis family minestrone, then save it and make a big pot this week.
Whole foods, mostly plants, shared slowly with the people you love.
