Paphos Chapter of the Imagination Foundation

Paphos Chapter of the Imagination Foundation Anasa Community Wellness has joined the Imagination Foundation for the 2015-2016 school year. Share our journey as we create awesomeness together.

We have been awarded a chapter of the Imagination Foundation for Paphos at the Anasa Community Wellness centre. This is about a nine month project and we will meet two Saturdays per month for about 2 hours where the children will be constructing their own designs from cardboard and recyclable materials. This programme is free and the aim is to develop skills and self esteem and foster creativity a

nd entrepreneurship through imaginative and creative play. These will by family events where families can spend some quality, fun time together as they play, create and socialize with other families from their community. There is also a global cardboard challenge on the 11th of October which the whole community can participate in. If you would like to participate please watch our page for upcoming events. Even if you won’t be joining us you can help us by collecting cardboard boxes of all sizes from refrigerator boxes to small packaging cartons and any other recyclable materials that can be used to create and construct with. We will need to get some sponsorships for materials like packaging tape for sticking things together, a glue gun or two, box cutters for adults to assist with cutting projects etc. so if you can help in any way please let us know. Hey Kids! What are you going to make with cardboard this weekend? How about a Marble Maze? If you do make one please bring it along to our event next weekend or, if you can't, post a picture on the event wall. Sharing is all part of the challenge. Now go get creative!

I love marble mazes. This is a project where you can make your own with straws, glue and a box lid.

We had our first Imagination Chapter meeting today and of the approximately 150 children invited only two 5 year olds turned up. But these two were so enthusiastic that they made me forget my initial disappointment in no time. Our first project was just to experiment with the lovely Makedo kits we received. The kids wanted to make a castle so that's what we did. The Makedo tools and screws are fantastic. These two 5 year olds got the hang of it in no time and they were incredibly easy and safe to use. I've done projects before where we joined boxes together with packaging tape and they were always coming undone and didn't stand up to play very well. Just a few Makedo screws held these boxes together very effectively and the kids managed to make the holes and insert the screws without any adult help. Cutting holes was always a safety nightmare before but now it's so safe and easy. I cut a small incision for the tool to be inserted and away they went. Every time they cut out a window or door they held up the piece and yelled 'I did it!' I'm totally in love with Makedo!

The Paphos Chapter of the Imagination Foundation will be meeting twice per month starting Saturday the 26th of September. The first workshop will be at 3.00 pm in the afternoon until 5.00 p.m. The next workshop will be in the morning. We will alternate the times so that children who have other sports and classes in the morning or afternoon can attend at least one session per month. Watch our page for event notifications.
