TissueGUARD is a spin-off project of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) Germany www.ipfdd.de

TissueGUARD is an FDA-registered medical device company specializing in proprietary ophthalmic devices and accessories for Keratoplasty. The company also develops and offers advanced device engineering, hydrogel materials, and biotechnology solutions for tissue engineering, cell therapies, and organoid therapeutics.

We will be attending Medtec Japan in Tokyo from 21–23 April and are currently seeking partners for our ophthalmic surgical devices.
During the same week, thanks to Start2 Group and German Accelerator, we will also participate in the SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026 exhibition on April 27-29, where we will present our latest developments in innovative hydrogel-based medical technologies.

TissueGUARD will be exhibiting at EEBA 2026 in A Coruña, Spain (19–21 March).
We will present our DMEK keratoplasty device, currently in CE certification, and introduce our latest DSAEK injector development, enabling graft injection using a technique similar to DMEK. Its manufacturing was supported by the European Union and Sächsische Aufbaubank - Förderbank - co-funding.

Great to see the TissueGUARD DMEK Injector featured in a recently published corneal transplantation video on YouTube.
The video, shared on Dr. James Tian's YouTube channel, shows the injector in use during a DMEK procedure. The graft shown was prepared by RMLEB.

As the year draws to a close and the holiday season approaches, we are celebrating five years since Mikhail, Sarah, and Simone became a team at TissueGUARD. Moving from a research spin-off to a fully operational FDA-registered company with several products on the market in just five years was an impressive journey with its ups and downs.
We are entering the new year with big goals, including European CE certification and a major expansion of our portfolio. A Big Thank you to our incredible personnel, contractors, friends, and supporters. We couldn’t have done this without you.

During our visit to Philadelphia, we had a great opportunity to visit AltruVision. We presented our TissueGUARD devices for Keratoplasty and shared insights on their benefits for corneal transplantation. It was inspiring to see AltruVision's dedication to advancing eye banking and patient care. Thank you to Gregory Dorn for hosting us at the eye bank and giving us a tour of the facilities. We’re excited to exhibit once again at the Advanced Therapies USA conference, this time in Philadelphia!
Beyond our work in innovative medical devices for ophthalmology, TissueGUARD is developing advanced substitution therapies for diseases affecting the cornea, retina, and ischemia. TissueGUARD is pleased to announce that our CEO, Mikhail, will present at the Cornea and Eye Banking Forum 2024, which will be held on October 18, 2024, in Chicago, IL. The event is jointly sponsored by the Cornea Society and the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA).
Mikhail will present "Universal Cannula Compartment Design for Both Endo-In and Endo-Out DMEK Implantation," highlighting an innovative solution to advance Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) procedures. This universal design enhances flexibility and precision, providing significant benefits for both surgeons and patients involved in corneal transplantation.

We are excited to share that we will be presenting at the ESCRS 2024 Congress in Barcelona! Our presentation, titled “Advancing Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty: Efficient Tri-Folded Graft Delivery Protocol With A Hydrophobic Asymmetrical Injector,” has been accepted for a Free Paper presentation. This work represents a collaborative effort between TissueGUARD GmbH, Leibnitz Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden e.V., and our distinguished partner, Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank, USA.
