We try our best to make Storya accessible to all. Gregory Lai will present his works for the first time... ever... in public!👏🏻 That takes a lot of courage, and we're so proud of him!🥳

🫶🏻 In his own words:

"Born in Mexico, grew up in Santiago de Chile and lives now in Munich Germany.

I started to paint, dance and sing from a young age.

For an artist the art comes like waves. You cannot really rush it or pressure it.

Sometimes you feel when the moment is there and you take it. Something inside you listens and that's how you start and create the most beautiful and authentic pieces of art.

I let my inner voice guide me and this voice is very loud. That's good. I get in a state of trance and that is what helps me bring the most out of my ability."

Bold colors, many details, and losing yourself in the images, discovering something new each time. Becoming a game, an interaction with the art, playing."

"Drums of Resistance is a contemporary documentary research project that turns its gaze
toward the cultural and political transformations that run through the tradition of maracatu,
guided by the leadership of Mestra Joana Cavalcante in Recife, Brazil."

2. A live maracatu performance! 🤩

In their own words:
🫶🏻 "Maracatu is an Afro-Brazilian cultural expression that permeates multiple dimensions of
social, spiritual, and artistic life. It originates in Black communities connected to Candomblé temples, brotherhoods, and traditions linked to the coronation of the King of Congo. More than a musical or carnival expression, it is a practice that weaves together religiosity, ancestry, and Black cultural resistance. Within this tradition, the rhythm is led by the drum, the percussive formation that sustains
and organizes collective time."

HAND BLOCK PRINTING IS A TRADITIONAL TEXTILE ART WHERE PATTERNS ARE STAMPED ONTO FABRIC USING HAND- CARVED WOODEN BLOCKS. EACH COLOR AND DESIGN IS APPLIED SEPARATELY BY HAND, MAKING EVERY PIECE UNIQUE.

One of my favourite passionate bakers is bringing her signature alrajores to Storya Festival! 😋🤤 Meet Marilia from ❤️

🎂 I LOVE MARILIA'S ALFAJORES!!! I first tasted them in 2021(?), and I still crave for them until this day! Not to mention, her cupcakes and other desserts are to dieeeee fooooor.😍

🎉 Alfajor is popular in Paraguay. It usually has a dulce de leche filling and some coconut coatings. Marilia represents her culture through her yummy treats!

Art inspired by tradition and handmade plant-based skincare inspired by nature 🌸... that's what .mai and .siya will share with us at Storya Festival on May 9!😍

In their own words:
🫶🏻 Hudda is a multidisciplinary artist based in Munich, focusing on body art and illustration. Her roots are in Palestine, where she spent most of her childhood and developed a strong connection to her culture. Grounded in her Palestinian roots and shaped by her life in the diaspora, she developed a deep commitment to preserving artistic and cultural heritage. This is reflected in her work, which is heavily inspired by the nature she grew up with in Palestine and the patterns and traditions of the SWANA region (Southwest Asia and North Africa).

🫶🏻 Mai is an interdisciplinary researcher and founder of Ecobites, currently based in Munich. Her work explores the interconnection between human health, environment, and agriculture, shaped by her upbringing close to nature in Palestine and her deep connection to plants and traditional knowledge. Through Ecobites, she translates this perspective into botanical skincare, creating products inspired by nature and guided by care for both people and the planet.
