EPISODE 3

Why allergies often don’t appear suddenly.

Many people think:
“I’ve worked for years without any problems — so why an allergy all of a sudden?”

But this is exactly what is typical for contact allergies.

An allergy often develops gradually over time. The immune system can become sensitized through repeated exposure to substances that are not fully cured — often without noticing it.

Especially critical:
Even the smallest amounts of uncured product can promote this process over months or even years.

At some point, the body suddenly reacts:
• itching
• redness
• burning
• small blisters
• swollen fingertips

This means:
It’s not only the product itself that matters — but also the application.

Modern nail design today requires:
• correct curing
• high-quality systems
• appropriate lamp technology
• knowledge about chemistry and safety

EPISODE 2

“The gel is hard.”But is it really fully cured?

Many people believe:As soon as a product feels hard, it is fully cured.

But this is one of the biggest misconceptions in the nail industry.

“Hard” does not automatically mean fully polymerized.

During curing, monomers and photoinitiators react under UV/LED light to form a solid polymer network. If this process is incomplete, unreacted substances can remain in the material — even when the surface already feels hard.

Possible causes:• material applied too thick• unsuitable or weak lamps• incorrect wavelengths• highly pigmented colors• incompatible combinations of product and lamp• curing times that are too short

The problem:Incomplete curing can significantly increase the risk of allergies — especially with repeated skin contact.

Modern nail design today is not just about whether a product “lasts.”

It is about correct application and complete curing.

Beautiful Nails.Sick Hands?

Allergies in the nail industry are increasing significantly worldwide — both among clients and nail technicians. But the cause is often far more complex than just “bad products.”

An allergy does not simply appear overnight. In most cases, the problem develops gradually through repeated contact with substances that are not fully cured on the skin.

And this is exactly where the real issue begins.

Many people think:“The gel is hard — so it must be fully cured.”

But “hard” does not automatically mean fully polymerized.

During curing, monomers and photoinitiators react under UV- lamps to form a solid polymer network. If this process is disrupted or incomplete, residues of unreacted substances can remain — even when the material feels solid on the surface.

Possible causes include:• applying the material too thick• unsuitable or weak lamps• incorrect wavelengths• dirty or old lamps• highly pigmented colors• incompatible combinations of product and lamp• skin contact during application• insufficient application technique

Especially critical:Even the smallest amounts of uncured product on the skin can sensitize the immune system. This process is often gradual — over months or even years.

Possible symptoms:• itching• redness• burning skin• small blisters• skin peeling• swollen fingertips• chronic contact allergies

And the problem often does not stop at the nail salon.

Certain acrylates used in the nail industry can also be found in some medical materials. That is why dermatologists and scientists are increasingly focusing on this issue.

Modern nail design today is no longer just about beautiful results.

It is also about:• safe application• understanding product chemistry• proper curing• high-quality systems• skin protection• professional education

Because professional nails today are not only about durability and design — but also about responsibility.
