⚠️ ANOTHER NAIL PRODUCT INGREDIENT HEADING FOR AN EU BAN
Following the TPO ban, there is another ingredient that EU-based nail professionals should have on their radar:
💅 Tetrahydrofurfuryl Methacrylate (THFMA)
CAS: 2455-24-5
THFMA is a methacrylate monomer used in some UV/LED nail products, including gels and gel polishes.
Under the EU’s 23rd ATP to the CLP Regulation, THFMA has been classified as Reproductive Toxicity Category 1B (Repr. 1B).
This brings it within the CMR rules of the EU Cosmetics Regulation. The European Commission currently lists THFMA among the substances covered by the forthcoming Cosmetics Omnibus IX, with the CMR measures due to apply from:

Importantly, Omnibus IX is still under preparation, so technically we should not say that the cosmetics ban has already entered into law. However, the direction is now very clear.
Now would be a sensible time to start checking your ingredient lists for:
TETRAHYDROFURFURYL METHACRYLATE
IKON.IQ
Tetrahydrofurfuryl Methacrylate is #7 ingredient in the dermatologist methacrylate patch panel. Products containing this are not hypoallergenic, but some HEMA-free products can (and do) contain this.
✅ None of the IKON.IQ products use this ingredient.
Unlike some chemical names, this one is fortunately quite easy to spot. 😉
