Recently, the Dominica Hospitals Authority had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Wisam Al-Hafidh, Clinical Dean of the All Saints University School of Medicine, based at the University’s Canadian Head Office.

As part of the University’s accreditation process, periodic clinical site visits are conducted to engage with medical students and Clinical Preceptors across the various wards and clinical departments where students undertake their rotations.

The visit provided an opportunity to interact with students and medical professionals, observe the clinical learning environment, and strengthen collaboration between the Dominica Hospitals Authority and All Saints University School of Medicine.

On Wednesday, CEO Dr. Kenneth Darroux, Acting Matron Sindy George-Maxwell, and members of the Dominica Hospitals Authority’s management team visited the Marigot Hospital to meet with the hospital team ahead of the impending weather conditions.

The visit was part of the Authority’s ongoing preparedness efforts, ensuring that staff at all facilities are included in critical discussions and have the necessary information and plans in place should the weather conditions worsen.

For DHA, preparedness means working together, communicating effectively, and ensuring that everyone is ready to respond should the need arise.

The 11th European Development Fund (EDF) Technical Capacity Enhancement Programme has once again demonstrated its continued commitment to supporting the Dominica Hospitals Authority’s Dialysis Unit.

On behalf of the Dominica Dialysis Association, through the efforts of Dr. Pearl James, a donation of 300 units of Erythropoietin was made to the hospital, providing valuable support to patients who depend on this essential medication.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the entire team for their continued involvement, partnership, and commitment to strengthening healthcare in Dominica.

Your support continues to make a meaningful difference.

A small reminder from our pediatrician: children should also be informed when a hurricane is approaching. They should not be kept in the dark. Take the time to explain what is happening in a calm and age-appropriate way, so they can feel prepared, reassured, and safe.

Last Friday was an emotional day for the Dominica Hospitals Authority as we stood in solidarity with Nursing Aide, Davina George, who recently lost all her belongings in a devastating house fire.

While we were grateful to provide her with essential items and a financial contribution, we are most thankful that, despite the loss, Davina is safe and blessed with life.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Acting Matron, Nursing Managers, Ward Supervisors, Staff Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Ward Aides who generously collected items for the donation, as well as the members of staff who made monetary contributions. We also thank the Dominica Hospitals Authority for its cheque donation.

Your kindness and generosity have shown that even in difficult times, the hospital family comes together to support one of its own.

On behalf of Davina George, who was deeply moved by the outpouring of support, we say thank you. May your generosity continue to make a difference in the lives of others.

As we continue through the hurricane season, we remain hopeful and prayerful that Dominica will be spared from any major disaster. However, preparedness remains our best defense.

At the Dominica Hospitals Authority, we have been taking proactive steps to ensure that our facilities are ready and, just as importantly, that our patients and the public are well informed.

Today, our Senior Pharmacist, Ms. Dorita Ferreira, shares important advice on stocking up on essential medications when a hurricane watch or warning has been issued. Planning ahead can help ensure you and your loved ones have the medications you need before severe weather impacts the island.

Stay informed. Be prepared. Stay safe.

Our doctors have spoken! Bike Fest 2026!

Hear from our Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon and Consultant Neurosurgeon ahead of Dominica Bike Festival 2026.

Whilst we are not against people enjoying the excitement and camaraderie of motorcycle riding, we believe that safety must always come first. No adrenaline rush is worth risking your life or the lives of others.

Please wear your helmet, avoid drinking and riding, obey all traffic laws, and ride responsibly. Every decision you make on the road matters.

During this period, we often see an increase in road traffic accidents. While our surgeons and healthcare teams are committed to providing the highest standard of care, some injuries are simply too severe. Not every broken bone can be fully restored, and not every limb can be saved.

Choose safety over regret. Protect yourself, protect others, and let's make Dominica Bike Festival 2026 a celebration remembered for the right reasons.

Ride smart. Ride sober. Ride home!

Sometimes, happiness can be found in the simplest things.

For these children, it was receiving what some perceive as a simple hearing aid but the impact? Life-changing.

In May 2026, Therapy Abroad Inc. hosted an audiology pop-up clinic. This is the first batch of hearing aids to be distributed following the assessments conducted at the clinic, with additional fittings expected to take place.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Allister, ENT, and his team for their continued facilitation.
