In Egypt, the prevalence of diabetes is significant, with around 10.9 million adults (18.4% of the adult population) affected as of 2021. This number is projected to rise to approximately 13.7 million by 2030 and 20 million by 2045. Diabetic ulcers, particularly diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), are a common and severe complication among these patients, with a substantial impact on their quality of life and healthcare costs.
The prevalence of DFUs among diabetic patients in Egypt is considerable, contributing to the healthcare burden due to the need for specialized treatment and management.
Research indicates that infections in DFUs are frequently polymicrobial and often involve multidrug-resistant bacteria, making effective treatment more challenging.
