Ever since I was a young, Irish lad, boxing has been one of my main outlets for managing emotions.๏ฟฝ
Back then, I thought it was just me โ and other โmenโ โ using boxing as a way to regulate the body.
But on our recent community trip to Kickboxing Clique Barcelona, I heard the same message from so many of the woman there:๏ฟฝ
Itโs the presence that boxing brings.๏ฟฝ
The focus it demands.๏ฟฝ
The connection you build with your partner.๏ฟฝ
The release of stored emotion through movement.
All of it leads to a rare kind of tranquility.
During our time at Paddy Brennanโs Boxing Academy, I stepped into the ring for the first time in a while after recovering from injuries. Just two rounds โ and I could literally feel emotional weight lifting off my shoulders.
Boxing isnโt just a sport.๏ฟฝ
Itโs a form of therapy.
๏ฟฝItโs why I use it in my wellbeing sessions with children through The Neuro Network, and why itโs a core part of what we do at Breathe & Box โ bringing people back to themselves through movement, regulation, and connection.
Itโs ironic, really โ finding calm through combat.๏ฟฝ But thatโs the beauty of it.
