Under Mayor Adanech Abiebie’s leadership, Addis Ababa has launched Children: The Future Hope of Addis Ababa, an ambitious ECD program targeting 1.3 million children (0–6 years) to break intergenerational poverty and position the city as Africa’s best for raising children .

1. Parent Coaching: A workforce of 5,000 trained coaches conducts home visits to support caregivers in nurturing care, health, and learning, prioritizing 330,000 vulnerable households .
2. Infrastructure & Play: Over 12,000 playgrounds, car-free streets for play, and integrated ECD services in health centers ensure holistic child development .
3. African Center of Excellence for ECD:Established to scale best practices, train ECD professionals, and advise policymakers across Africa via the African Center for Early Childhood Development (AfC-ECD) .
