Dear Members of the Surgical Society of Ethiopia, Colleagues, Friends, and the Family of Professor Amezene,
It is with a heart full of profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that I write to you today on behalf of the Surgical Society of Ethiopia. We have received the devastating news of the passing of our esteemed colleague and valued member, Professor Amezene Tadese, a General and Pediatric Surgeon.
Professor Amezene was not just a member of our society; he was a pillar of our surgical community, contributing immensely to the service and teaching of General surgery in his earlier career. He was among the very few pioneers of pediatric surgeons in Ethiopia. During his time in Gondar University, He not only contributed for the postgraduate training in General surgery but also was the only pediatric surgeon for several years.
He mentored several of the current practicing pediatric surgeons. His passing leaves a void that cannot be easily filled. For decades, he embodied the highest ideals of our profession—demonstrating supreme skill in the operating theater, a profound dedication to his patients, and an unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation of Ethiopian surgeons.
His contributions to the field of surgery in our country were immense. He was a teacher, a leader, and a pioneer whose work elevated standards and saved countless lives. His contribution to our society as a member was huge. Until his last days of illness, he was an active and productive member of the Executive Committee of SSE.
To all his family, Friends, and Colleagues, we extend our most sincere condolences. We cannot fully comprehend the depth of your personal loss, but we want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. While we mourn his untimely departure, we also celebrate a life remarkably lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire us all. His work, his teachings, and the countless lives he touched will ensure that his spirit endures within the halls of our hospitals and our Society. May God grant his soul eternal peace & life, and give his family, friends, and all of us the strength to bear this great loss.
